Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Tell her

As she sets up the pot so she can cook the soup, Saif is just standing there, staring at her. When she lit the fire, Saif flinched a little. As she cooked, he was staring, but inside he was thinking. Thinking about how he could possibly make them run away. Run away... Why? Now that he thinks about it, there is no need for them to leave at all. The wide building is so far away that where they are it's not even a slight danger to them. When that dawned on him, the stress in his body started to dissipate. But why did he want to run? Why was the first thing he thought was running? Getting away from what scared him. Fear. Fear… it didn't make him think properly. It controlled him, and he doesn't like it. He doesn't want that to happen again. Now, he needs to think. The wide building is away, so he can relax now.

But wait! Then it dawned on him. Her destination is the wide building! And he can't just let her go there under any circumstances. But how will he convince her not to go? He needs to tell her not to go. He needs to talk. He knows talking is a form of communication. He failed at it once, but he will try again. For her sake.

What should he say? He then remembered that she asked him that question. The first time. She just walked away at the same time the voice in his head gone quiet. Did she somehow hear the voice in his head? Wait... that's not right. She couldn't have heard the voice in his head as that's impossible. ... . Right? But in his situation where he is repeating the same day again and again, it doesn't seem that strange for her to be able to read his thoughts. But wait, if she could hear his thoughts, then she would have already known why they needed to leave, and wouldn't have pushed him away. Then what? How did she know his name and that's why she stopped asking, as when she didn't get an answer, she just kept asking? Doesn't matter now the how. The most important thing now is that they need to stay. But how did she know his name last time? No, last time she just got up and made him food just like this, also without an answer. (He did give her an answer, but he said his name without knowing he said his name.). But why did she not have kept asking? This time, the reason she went to cook was because he made noise that didn't mean anything. What would this now mean? Think, think! … ! She just thought he couldn't talk! That's it!

So now, all he needs to do is say his name. Last time, he concluded that was who he was as she asked him what he was, and he is the dreamer, but who he is is Saif, and that is what he is, as when she asked him, his mind screamed at him that word. By why? And how did his mind do that? And why did his mind do that? And how did she hear it? … . Doesn't matter now. What matters is that he needs to answer her. Saif. That's my name, should be easy enough. Saif starts to prepare himself again to speak and tries his best to say his name with all he got. He remembered how she would talk, how she would open her mouth and move her lips. But it also feels right to move the thing in his mouth. His tongue. He pulled his tongue back, and then, putting all of these informations together, he then let out with his voice, "Saakhh (Saif)." (He said it badly and this is what he meant to say, but the first section is how it sounded.)

She turned her head around when she heard him speak. She was slightly puzzled and surprised by what he was trying to say and how sudden it was, but still the reaction on her face was slight, not significant. He was surprised that he finally was able to let out noise that could be understood. Finally, he spoke a word! His first word! It didn't sound proper, but it at least resembled what he was intending. Yet, his voice sounded familiar too... . Before he could continue thinking, she got up and removed the pot from the top of the fire, and placed it next to it on the ground. She then walked up to him again. This slightly surprised Saif. He was towering over her as her small size relative to him was apparent. Was he just really big? Or was she really small? In this instance, it was a mix of both. She stood in front of him, looking like she was waiting for something. This flew over Saif's head for a bit as he was also waiting for her to do something now too.

Suddenly he realised she was waiting for the second answer for the second question. The one about how much he remembered. How much does he remember? Should he remember something? Maybe. Most probably, yes, but he doesn't remember any of it. Why? He looked into her eyes, and for a moment was mesmerised by their beautiful blue color. He wanted to look at them some more, but he didn't want her to wait any longer, so he tries to focus. And her hair looked so silky and smoot-... No, focus! He prepares himself again to speak once more. The answer he needs to speak is that he doesn't remember anything. So, he should say 'No, I don't remember'. Simple enough answer. Right? He again contracts his body and face and speaks, "Nw, ieee dunnt reemambuor. (No, I don't remember.)."

When that word escaped his lips, the person just walked back to the pot and placed it on the fire again and started to cook again. This just made Saif stand there confused as she just asked him the question and got her answer, and that's it. Nothing more at all. Nothing she wants to say to him after all of that. Maybe she is waiting for him to ask her? Oh, of course that's it. She is waiting for a question like the one she gave to him. Focus now, and ask her the same question. Saif took a deep breath and constraints deeply as he is about to say a long sentence. He was proud of himself for saying his first sentence, but now he is going to say something longer than anything he has spoken before up to this point. Which isn't that much, but that's not the point here. He contracts again and says, "Waht arrr yuww... annd hauw mutch du yuw reeemembuarrrr? (What are you and how much do you remember?"

As he asked this, he was proud of himself for actually saying it and not sounding too bad. He then waited for a reply. And waited. And waited. ... . Maybe she is just taking her time thinking just like he did. Yes, that must be it. So he should just wait. Saif waited for a good amount of a while until he realised he wasn't going to get an answer. He knew she heard him, and he understood the noise that he let out, so why isn't she answering or acknowledging his existence anymore? This is too confusing. Why isn't she answering him? Did she just not hear him? Maybe? So he tries again to say the words he said before, but this time louder and just slightly more clearer, as he is getting used to his mouth's movement. Yet, even after he raised his voice, there was no answer.

Saif doesn't understand why she is ignoring him now, and it's really frustrating as he worked so hard to talk. Plus, he now realised that if she kept ignoring his words, then that could mean that she could ignore him and just walk to the wide building anyways, and she is much stronger than he is, some how, so she will easily overpower him even if he tries to stop her. What should he do!? Saif tries to work his brain to find a solution, thinking of how he should talk to her and get her attention. She kept making slight noises while cooking, either it was cutting or peeling or stirring for the soup, so Saif acknowledged all the noises as just background noise while he was thinking. He had his eyes closed with his hands on his slumped head tightly, well, one more than the other as one is hurt, holding his head while he thought hard for her sake.

He was so emerged in thought that he didn't realise that the noises changed, and as he already had any noise as background from her cooking, he didn't hear her take the pot off the fire and stop the fire with a bit of water. Then she placed some of the soup in a bowl and walked up to him who was still standing, thinking while holding his head with his eyes closed and his head slumped down, and frustration evident on his face. She taps his not hurt shoulder twice in a row, yet, even if it wasn't the hurt shoulder, he still flinched hard from the surprise as he didn't expect something to touch him at all. He got jump scared but her. Jump sca- No! Focus on her right now! He didn't have time to think about anything right now, which bothered him a lot that he didn't have time to think, but then he composed himself from the jump scare, which he also didn't like at all, he found her standing there with the wooden bowl in her hand, and her telling him with her soft yet aloof voice after a few moments of staring, "Eat." With her extending her right hand out with the spoon, with soup and vegetables inside.
