Chapter 2 - The Rules

HELENA

"No please don't kill him," I said, my voice breaking as I pleaded.

"And why not, kitten?" Vincenzo replied, a grin slowly spreading across his face.

That grin made my stomach twist. I looked down, nervous, but the moment I dared to look back up to speak, my father interrupted.

"Get the fuck inside, Helena!" my dad shouted, his body shaking.

"How much does he owe you?" I asked Vincenzo, fear clawing at my chest as I imagined him shooting my father at any second.

"A huge amount of money," he replied coldly. "Even if you worked your whole life, you wouldn't be able to pay it."

"Dad what did you use that kind of money for?" I asked, turning to him.

He couldn't even look at me. The guilt was written all over his face.

"What else would he use it for if not gambling?" Vincenzo said dismissively. "Which doesn't concern me. You're coming with me now. Go pack some clothes no, don't bother."

"No no. I'm not coming with you," I said, shaking my head. "Give us two months. I'll repay you. I promise."

"Like I care," he said flatly. "Or do you want me to kill your father right now?"

He tightened his grip on the gun, his anger clear.

"O-okay," I cried. "I'll come with you. Just leave my dad alone."

"Good," he murmured. "Now come outside. Try anything stupid, and I won't hesitate to shoot him."

The next thing I knew, I was dragged outside without even saying goodbye to my father.

Vincenzo shoved me into a very expensive car and ordered the driver to move. Silence filled the space between us. Minutes or maybe hours passed. I couldn't tell anymore.

" where are we going?" I asked softly, staring down at my lap.

A hand lifted my chin.

Dark grey eyes locked with my brown ones. I held my breath. His gaze was intoxicating, unreadable, cold. His face revealed nothing.

He leaned closer. I felt his warm breath, his cologne wrapping around me. My lower lip trembled, and without thinking, I licked it.

"Look at me when you speak," he said harshly.

I nodded.

"Speak," he ordered, gripping my jaw tighter until it hurt.

"Yes," I cried.

"We'll be arriving at my home soon," he said. "There are things you should know."

"The entire place is monitored with CCTV. Armed men guard the property. There is no escape. Anyone who tries to help you will die."

I stayed silent as he continued.

"You're free to walk around the compound. I don't plan to lock you up. But misbehave, and I will. Do you understand?"

"Yes," I said weakly. "There's nowhere I could escape to."

"Good," he said. "Because you're mine."

The car pulled up in front of a massive mansion. Men dressed in black suits and sunglasses stood guard, rifles in hand. They looked terrifying.

The door opened. Vincenzo stepped out, and I followed.

The mansion was surrounded by open fields, with a long dusty road stretching endlessly ahead. Even if I escaped the house, I would never make it far.

Vincenzo walked inside like a king. The doors closed behind me.

The foyer was enormous. Cream marble floors stretched toward an elegant staircase. A large table with flowers stood in the center. Doorways led to other parts of the house.

"Damien will take you to our room," Vincenzo said. "I have a meeting."

"Our room?" I asked, confused.

He didn't respond. I watched him leave.

"This way, ma'am," Damien said.

He was muscular too just not like Vincenzo.

He showed me the kitchen, the outdoor lounge filled with plants and flowers, the library, the gym, and the pool.

"Please call me Helena," I told him.

"Sir won't allow it," he replied.

"Then I won't follow you," I said stubbornly.

He laughed softly. "Alright, Helena."

Finally, he led me to the bedroom.

"This is yours and Mr. Esposito's room," he said, opening the door.

The room was enormous. A large bed dominated the space. A walk-in closet and a luxurious bathroom followed golden taps, white tiles, dark blue towels. Everything was perfect. Too perfect.

When I returned to the bedroom, the doors were closed.

Locked.

"Where are you going?"

I turned sharply.

Vincenzo sat on the bed.

"I wasn't going anywhere," I said quietly. "I was just surprised the door was locked."

He nodded.

What he said next made my legs shake.

"Listen carefully," he said. "Every morning, you'll wake up beside me. Which I will f**k you before We'll bathe together. We'll eat together. You'll kiss me before I leave."

He stood, moving closer.

"When I return, we'll eat again," he continued calmly. "Then we f**k you to sleep."

His hands remained in his pockets.

And I knew my life had ended the moment I walked through that door.
