Chapter 45 - Baron Mordo! The Possessive Mask Appears In Karma-Taj?

On the light curtain, the video showed a man sitting at a table surrounded by shelves filled with seemingly ancient looking books. This was the library of Karma-Taj. And the man who sat at the table, engrossed in his book, was none other than Baron Mordo.

The Ancient One, who was momentarily dazed from her magic not being able to form a portal, looked towards the light curtain again. Judging from the previous anomalies, she knew whenever someone appeared on the light curtain, they'd be inseparable from whatever anomaly is being shown.

Feeling anxious, she decided to quickly get to the Library as fast as possible.

"Mordo, I hope you can resist that evil artifact. At least until I get there". She thought inwardly.

___________

On the light curtain.

Mordo was rummaging through one magic book after another, seemingly looking for something. Growing frustrated, he threw one of the books to the floor and cursed. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked mentally unstable. Malevolent thoughts went through his head, as if something spoke into his mind from the deepest abyss.

"WHY DID SHE CHOOSE HIM? WHY? A BROKEN NOBODY! CLEARLY, YOU ARE THE SUPERIOR ONE".

"Yes! He's a nobody. But why? Why would The Sorcerer Supreme go out of her way to bring him in personally? And worst of all, that insolent wretch had the gall to decline an offer from The Sorcerer Supreme". Mordo was venting out loud, not knowing his every word was heard on the light curtain.

___________

Kamar-Taj.

The Mages watching the light curtain were confused. Mordo had always been one of the strongest mages in Karma-Taj, and one of the few favoured by the Ancient One. So, seeing him act this way was a surprise to them. But, some of the more experienced Mages realized something was wrong.

No! That evil mask, it's somewhere in the library". One of the mages exclaimed in realization.

Don't worry, The Ancient One is headed to the library right now". Another mage said, though his voice betrayed the lack of confidence in his words.

__________

Stark Mansion.

"Did he just say Sorcerer Supreme"?

Tony was a little unsure, he thought he misheard it.

"If my ears haven't failed me, then I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he said". Rhodes replied.

Tony was momentarily speechless, if someone had told him Magic was real a few days ago, he would take them for a madman. But now, with all these weird anomalies, Magic seems to be the least unrealistic thing.

He quickly turned his attention back to the title, returning to his usual sharp tongued self. "Huh… this person, is quite the narcissist. Calling themselves The Sorcerer Supreme. Hahaha, did a child come up with that name"?

Rhodes looked at him like he was an idiot. "If you ever became a Sorcerer, I'm sure you'd give yourself a title more grandiose than The Sorcerer Supreme".

Suddenly, Tony realized. "If one of these Sorcerers was possessed by that mask, doesn't that mean it gets access to all of the host's magical powers"? Tony was curious about magic, but also anxious about the possibility of that Mask gaining magical powers.

"God I hope these are the type of magicians that pull rabbits out of a hat".

"Yeah, me too buddy, me too". Rhodes replied.

___________

On the Internet…..

"Huh? Sorcerer Supreme? Now we got D&D characters versus anomalies"? This should be interesting"…..

"Wait, this guy seems quite dissatisfied with this Sorcerer Supreme. Are we about to see a fight with magic"?

"Oh my god! Is that weird Mask going to possess that unstable Sorcerer"?

"It's likely he's unstable because of that Mask. Perhaps it's already in that library".

"..."

_____________

SHIELD Headquarters.

The Agents were busy recording and trying to find any information about these so-called Sorcerers. They thought this Mask was dangerous enough, even if it possessed a regular human. But they never considered if it possessed someone with abilities. That would make its danger level shoot up the roof.

"Dammit, I should've thought of this sooner. This makes things much more complicated". Nick Fury could feel a headache coming on. He could only hope, which ever sorcerer gets possessed, is not this so-called Sorcerer Supreme.

_________

Asgard.

"Magic"?

Loki, who was just about to leave for Earth was stunned. "There are mages on Midgard? Why didn't Father ever mention them"?

As the God of trickery, Loki was very adapt at magic. He could tell those ancient looking books were the real deal. As for why his Father never mentioned them? Perhaps these mages aren't all that impressive.

Turning to look at the light curtain, he showed his iconic smirk. "I'm quite interested in what form of magic these mortals use. Of course, it's nothing compared to the magic of Asgard".

__________

On the light curtain.

Baron Mordo kept pacing back-and-forth in the library, muttering something to himself. He felt envious of Strange, having The Sorcerer Supreme recruit him personally, and even more furious when he thought of how strange dismissed her offer. He couldn't comprehend why The Ancient One would recruit him forcefully, ignoring his dismissal of her.

Suddenly, as if realizing his own mental state, he took in a deep breath and calmed himself.

"Wa… What's going on? My head hurts. Why do I feel so…. Angry"?

He quickly tried to use magic to check for any abnormalities. Just as he was about to cast a spell, he suddenly heard a deep, and raspy voice. It came from every direction of the library.

"MORDO".

"THE ANCIENT ONE HAS GROWN SENILE".

"YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WORTHY OF BEING SORCERER SUPREME".

"SHE PLANS TO MAKE THAT PATHETIC BROKEN MAN HER SUCCESSOR".

"DO NOT LET HIM TAKE AWAY YOUR VERY RIGHT".

"I CAN HELP YOU, MORDO".

"YOU CAN BECOME THE SORCERER SUPREME…. NO, YOU CAN BE THE NEW GOD OF MAGIC".
