Since it was a farm, it of course wouldn't be complete without poultry and livestock.
She bought two cows, ten silver taels each. Fearing that a single cow might exhaust someone when put to work, she bought two.
With five silver taels, she got a donkey, which would prove useful later. For now, it was kept on the farm with the cows and horses.
Then she bought about ten each of chickens, ducks, and geese. The farm already had cages for raising poultry, so she didn't need to build any more.
She purchased six piglets all at once. Depending on their weight, a piglet cost between 500 cents and one tael.
All this added up to around sixty to seventy silver taels.
Money had to be spent everywhere, and with not a penny coming in, it was naturally a cause for insecurity.
Aside from those expenses, she spent another forty or fifty silver taels on farm tools. The category of farm tools was broad, including carts, baskets, plowing and hoeing equipment, so the costs were inevitable.
