But at least they believed in the rulers, and they believed that sacrifice was a prerequisite for a better life. They would not object to the demand for sacrifice, nor would they resist it.
But if one day they began to question the rulers' demands, commands, then they would also begin to doubt whether a beautiful life must be obtained through sacrifice.
Then they would observe, whether the rulers were happy, whether their happiness was obtained through sacrifice, and what exactly they, their entire ruling class, had sacrificed to enjoy such a fulfilling life.
This is a very frightening thing, yet now, the Mayor, who is part of the ruling class, is actually planning to uncover these things. How could this not infuriate and terrify some members of the ruling class?
