The Professor slowly placed the phone back on its cradle. The cigarette at the edge of the ashtray had burned down to a stub—he had only taken two puffs.
He took out another, lit it, and the entire person seemed somewhat in decline.
Wolf didn't speak, just looked at him.
He probably knew what had happened, but surprisingly, he didn't explode with anger.
"I made a mistake."
He took a drag of the cigarette, placed it in the ashtray, rubbed his face forcefully with both hands, then massaged his head, and finally, in a sudden rage, pushed everything off the table with both hands!
Wolf remained silent, still watching him.
Breathing heavily, the Professor bent down to pick up the cigarette that had fallen to the ground and took another breath, "I made an empiricist error."
