Decades ago, ignoring human rights organizations' objections, the Free Federation exploited a legislative loophole and created a fictional world where human post-mortem consciousness could directly exist—Bright Lamp Star.
Simply put,
when a rich person felt their life was nearing its end and could not use telomere soothing agents or other technologies to extend life, they could personally come to the Free Federation for a brain excision surgery, allowing their brain to survive in a specially made container transformed into a personal biological computer.
With their consciousness based on their brain, they connected to a vibrant and incredibly stable fictional planet, Bright Lamp Star.
