The role of Wuda's protection division was to ensure the safety of the campus, and sometimes they were responsible for protecting the travel of certain important individuals or for the safety of events held by Wuda off-campus.
But there was never an option for the protection of students.
Wuda was only responsible for the safety of students while on campus. Once off-campus, whether one lived or died was purely up to one's own fate. Wuda wasn't a student's parent and thus, was not obligated to take responsibility.
Moreover, martial artists were inherently a 'high-risk group.' If one needed someone to protect and defend them all the time, then it would be even less likely for them to succeed.
Therefore, protecting students was not in line with Wuda's educational philosophy.
