Ruben naturally knew that Green Sorrow would not be content to be a so-called security guard at the academy for his entire life. In his view, this was a huge insult to someone like Green Sorrow, who was of noble birth.
The reason Green Sorrow was willing to accept this insult was that he wanted to gain powerful secrets from the other side. Once he obtained them, he would naturally betray.
So as long as Dumbledore is kidnapped, the process can be skipped, directly obtaining the final result.
As for failure?
To Ruben, it didn't matter anymore. If he carried on like this, he would be dead anyway, so he might as well take a gamble.
The only remaining challenge was how to persuade Green Sorrow. While Ruben was willing to risk his life, that didn't mean Green Sorrow would choose to comply.
