Chapter 12 - True being of Tai

The Arena Clash

The arena thundered with cheers as Sai stepped into the ring, his mind calm despite the pressure. Across from him stood Li, a 14-year-old prodigy, master of Tiger and Crane styles. His confidence radiated, backed by a reputation for power and precision.

Sai, however, was no ordinary fighter. A master of Muay Thai and Snake style, he had recently added Northern Praying Mantis to his arsenal, sharpening his adaptability. The crowd hushed as the gong rang.

Testing the Waters

Li launched first from his Tiger stance, a claw-like strike aimed at Sai's chest. Sai deflected with an elbow and stepped back.

"You've trained well," Li said.

Sai replied with a grin. "Let's see."

Li pressed forward, his attacks heavy and relentless. Sai flowed between Snake and Mantis techniques, slipping past strikes and countering with precision. When Li lunged again, Sai hooked his arm with a mantis grip and drove a knee into his ribs.

Li winced but shifted into Crane stance, deflecting Sai's next blows with graceful efficiency. "You'll need more than that," he taunted.

Sai's grin widened. "I'm just getting started."

The Turning Point

Li returned to Tiger style, driving Sai back with sweeping kicks and claw strikes. Sai relied on Muay Thai conditioning, blocking with elbows and forearms. He countered with a high kick, but Li ducked, grazing him with a Crane jab.

Realizing brute strength wouldn't work, Sai merged all three styles—Snake weaving for evasion, Mantis hooks to disrupt, and Muay Thai for finishing blows. The crowd roared as the pace quickened.

The Final Exchange

Li launched a flying Crane kick, but Sai sidestepped, hooking his leg midair and pulling him off balance. Sai transitioned instantly, driving an elbow into Li's chest.

"You've improved," Li gasped, staggering.

With a Tiger's roar, Li charged one last time. Sai stepped inside his guard, redirected with Mantis finesse, and landed a spinning elbow followed by a crushing Muay Thai knee. Li hit the mat hard.

The referee counted to ten. Sai was declared the victor.

He offered his hand. "You're strong."

Li nodded. "And you're sharper than I expected. That training paid off."

Sai rejoined Shi and Tai, greeted with cheers. His month of effort had proven its worth.

The Awakening of the Snake King

Far across the world, a dark ritual reached its climax. The Killer, cloaked in shadow, chanted at a ruined altar. The earth split, and the Snake King emerged, his obsidian scales gleaming, his eyes burning with unholy fire.

"Who dares disturb my slumber?" he thundered.

The Killer knelt. "The world needs chaos. You are its harbinger."

The Snake King grinned. "Then chaos they shall have. But first, I reclaim my throne." He began marching toward his ancient kingdom, where his queen now ruled.

Tai vs. Ri

Back at the tournament, Tai stepped into the ring to face Ri, a towering fighter of unmatched strength and precision.

The gong rang, and Ri attacked immediately with a spinning kick. Tai ducked, countering with a low sweep, but Ri avoided it with ease. "Fast," Ri said, "but speed alone won't save you."

Tai pressed forward with rapid strikes, but Ri blocked and countered with a devastating punch to the ribs, forcing Tai back. Ri flowed between Tiger, Crane, and even Snake style, mocking Tai's techniques.

"You fight well," Ri sneered. "But I've seen it all before."

Breaking Point

Tai struggled to withstand Ri's relentless assault. A spinning kick sent him crashing to the floor, blood on his lips. From the sidelines, Sai and Shi shouted for him to rise.

Ri stood over him. "Pathetic." He stepped back, allowing Tai to stumble upright.

Bruised and fading, Tai recalled an ancient book he had studied weeks before. It spoke of a hidden power within his Snake heritage—terrible, yet unstoppable.

The Awakening

As Ri advanced for the finish, Tai clutched his chest, a strange heat coursing through him. His vision blurred, and then clarity struck: This is who I am. I won't lose now.

Chanting ancient words, Tai's body began to change. His skin shimmered with scales, his eyes turned golden and slit-pupiled, and fangs extended from his mouth. A snake's tail lashed behind him, and a glowing serpent mark burned on his chest.

The crowd gasped. Ri froze, shaken. "What are you?"

The True Son of the Snake

Tai stood transformed, his injuries gone. He moved with terrifying speed, slashing through Ri's defenses. Ri scrambled up, but Tai's strikes came like a storm, each one imbued with monstrous strength.

"This can't be real!" Ri shouted.

But Tai was no longer merely human. He was the awakened Son of the Snake.

With a final surge, Tai caught Ri mid-attack, lifted him, and hissed, "You thought you could break me. But you've only awakened the beast."

He crushed Ri in his grip, his roar shaking the arena. The shockwave shattered stone as the island itself began to crumble. The tournament was over, buried in ruin.

The King's Revelation

Far away, the Snake King felt the tremor of power and smirked. "My son… you've awakened."

The Snake Queen, seated on her throne, sensed it too. The battle for the Snake Kingdom was drawing near.

Aftermath

As dust settled, Sai and Shi searched the wreckage. At the center stood Tai, his snake form still glowing with power.

"Tai," Sai called carefully.

For a moment, Tai seemed to recognize them. Then his instincts took over. With one last look, he vanished into the shadows.

The tournament was over. The world had changed forever.
