“How much longer do we have to walk?”

The scorching heat and the steady passage of time made Wooheon uneasy.

He squinted against the harsh sunlight, one eye half-shut.

“They said it was close. I think we should be there soon.”

“Don’t trust humans. Especially the old ones. Young people discriminate against anthropomorphs, but old people are even worse.”

“But they taught us at the anthropomorph school that humans are kind.”

“That’s a government-run institution. You really think they’re gonna tell you humans are terrible and you should only trust your own kind?”

At the anthropomorph schools, they drilled it into anthropomorphs from day one:

“You’re beasts. On the other hand, humans are good and delicate.”

Growing up under the care of a kind, elderly caretaker, Yueul had believed it without question.

He had believed it when his ex helped him through grief, when he offered him a place to live after his caretaker passed away.

And what did he get in return?

A boatload of debt.
