The rat paused for a moment, glanced up at him, then rolled its bright eyes mischievously and stretched out its small claws. Max could practically feel its intent.
"Greedy rat," he muttered with a helpless laugh, before taking out two additional beast cores of the fifth level of Legend Rank and tossing them over. Only then did the little rat nod in satisfaction and sit by the entrance of the cave like a tiny guardian, still nibbling happily on its payment.
Max smiled faintly, reassured, then sat cross-legged once again. With a flip of his palm, a dark blue book appeared in his hand, its surface faintly glowing with mysterious energy. This was the technique he had obtained from Jake—the One Step Mile.
He placed the book gently in front of him, his eyes filled with determination. "Time to master this."
