Max showed almost no reaction. "You want my life over a trial result?"
Arkorg gave a light shrug. "Don't misunderstand me."
A faint sneer crossed his face. "I've got no personal grudge against you."
That answer made Max's eyes sharpen slightly.
"I'm just doing what I was asked to do," Arkorg went on.
Those words sent another wave of whispers through the nearby crowd. Someone had sent Arkorg here. One of the Five Supernovas had come to Max in person because somebody else wanted him dead.
Max stared at him for several seconds before nodding slowly. "I see."
His tone was almost casual. "So you're just a dog following your master's orders."
Silence dropped over the area. Several people nearby visibly stiffened, and a few seemed to wonder whether they had heard him right.
"Did he just call Arkorg a dog?"
"Is he out of his mind?"
"That's one of the Five Supernovas."
"The guy has no fear at all."
