Chapter 336: The Fall of Hanhai City
After a few days spent in the Wuhun Hall to ensure that Qian Daoliu had mostly recovered, Yang Potian and Qian Renxue left Wuhun City together, heading back to Tianxing Academy.
By now, Qian Renxue was a familiar face at the academy, having visited multiple times, and everyone treated her presence as routine.
After his battle with Qian Daoliu, Yang Potian hadn't yet reviewed the content of his Asura God Trials, but now he finally had the time to examine them.
"The Fifth Asura Trial has been completed, increasing Asura affinity by 10%. Current compatibility: 60%."
Simultaneously, the next part of his trial, the Sixth Asura Trial, appeared in his mind:
"Asura's Judgment — Ensure that either the human race or the soul beast race unifies the world. Choose a future for either humans or soul beasts."
Seeing this trial, Yang Potian was puzzled. What exactly did Asura mean by this? With Wuhun Empire nearing total control, how could another threat emerge?
And what was the significance of "either the human or soul beast race unifying the world"? Did the soul beasts truly have the potential to rule?
Yang Potian pondered the situation, feeling that something was amiss. Given current circumstances, Bibi Dong's Wuhun Empire seemed on the verge of complete conquest, with Hanhai City as the only remaining obstacle. But what about the soul beasts? Did they hold any real power? Even if they pinned their hopes on Tang San ascending to godhood, it seemed far-fetched.
As far as he knew, the Star Dou Great Forest was home to a handful of powerful beasts like Ditian, Bear Lord, Bi Ji, Zi Ji, the Beast King, and the Red King — a total of six fierce beasts. Of them, only Ditian, Bear Lord, and Bi Ji approached the power level of an ultimate Douluo; the others lagged behind. And as for the Silver Dragon King hiding in the shadows, she seemed nothing more than a coward.
In the original story, Tang San had done little for the Star Dou Great Forest, and yet the Silver Dragon King held him in almost blind reverence, which seemed misplaced.
Deciding to set aside his doubts, Yang Potian refocused on the present. He expected Bibi Dong would soon march on Hanhai City, especially after their last conversation, where he'd encouraged her to balance her ambitions with personal feelings. If she couldn't bring herself to act, then he himself would lead the conquest, wiping out all opposition in one stroke.
Back at Tianxing Academy, however, Qian Renxue seemed subdued. Where once she'd been cheerful and resilient, now a cold gloom settled over her.
One day, Yang Potian visited Qian Renxue in her room, finding her visibly troubled.
"Potian, why can't she accept me?" she asked, her voice heavy with sadness.
After a long pause, Yang Potian sighed. "It's not your fault, and it's not entirely hers either. From her perspective, accepting you will take time."
Qian Renxue's face twisted in frustration. "So what am I supposed to do now? She's completely rejected me."
"Xue'er, I have an idea. Why not start writing to her? Send her a letter each week and see how she responds."
"But what would I even write about?" she asked, skeptical yet intrigued.
"It doesn't matter. Write whatever comes to mind, whether it's about your training, childhood memories, or even your thoughts on relationships."
After considering his words, Qian Renxue picked up pen and paper and spent a long time composing her first letter, which she then arranged to send via Wuhun Empire personnel stationed nearby.
From that moment, an unexpected calm settled over Tianxing Academy. Yang Potian spent his days at ease, enjoying the peace. Within a month, Bibi Dong's desk overflowed with letters — over a dozen from Qian Renxue. Originally, Yang Potian had suggested only one letter per week, but Qian Renxue grew more enthusiastic, eventually writing every two days and demanding the letters be delivered promptly to Wuhun City.
Bibi Dong's expression became complicated as the letters piled up on her desk. Each time she received a letter, her hands would tremble as she held it, and she found herself muttering softly, "Xue'er… what am I to do?"
This exchange of letters was but a small, private affair within Wuhun Empire and had no bearing on the larger political landscape. Eventually, after much deliberation and urged by her Titled Douluo advisors, Bibi Dong resolved to advance on Hanhai City.
The city's defenders were formidable, especially the sea spirit masters whose strength was unparalleled in aquatic environments. However, Hanhai City was still rooted on land, limiting the sea spirit masters' full potential. Wuhun Empire's million-strong army soon surrounded the city, supported by several Titled Douluo and thousands of additional spirit masters. In less than a day, Hanhai City had fallen.
Many sea spirit masters fled to the open sea, while some surrendered. Still others, now homeless, resorted to piracy, plunging the coastal waters around Hanhai City into chaos. But the ones in the most dire straits were the land-based spirit masters who had sought refuge in Hanhai City, including Yu Xiaogang and his companions.
This group, led by Yu Xiaogang and including the Golden Iron Triangle, a few former Shrek Academy teachers like Qin Ming and Zhao Wuji, as well as the Titan-headed Strength Clan and the Agility Clan, numbered fewer than a hundred. The leader of the Agility Clan, Bai He, had stayed behind on a nearby island off Sea God Island, anticipating Tang San's eventual return.
Yu Xiaogang and his group, on the other hand, were at a severe disadvantage on water. As land-based spirit masters, their combat capabilities on the sea were extremely limited. Yu Xiaogang, a mere Spirit Grandmaster, was especially vulnerable. On the water, he was practically defenseless.
