Chapter 362: The Inheritance of the Shura God

With Yang Potian leading them, Yang Tianyue and Yang Ping'an returned to Tianxing Academy. Having spent considerable time in the Slaughter City, however, both were still shrouded in a fierce aura of bloodlust. Even with the Sea God's Trident, Yang Tianyue struggled to manage this lingering energy, which had even begun merging with the Sea God's divine light, making it harder to control.

According to Yang Potian's plan, after such rigorous training, Yang Tianyue's mindset and combat ability should have greatly improved. If she could quickly acquire her next few spirit rings, she'd likely reach Level 99 and be ready to complete her Sea God trials. With a Sea God guarding Tianxing Academy, they'd be able to repel any threat—be it Di Tian's beast tide or any number of soul beasts.

But given Yang Tianyue's current state, it was essential to tame her bloodlust before she could safely absorb more spirit rings or complete her final trial. The Sea God's ninth trial was not easy—it required overcoming all desires and emotions, a true test of mental resilience. In the original story, Tang San had barely succeeded, and his extreme temperament almost guaranteed he would have failed if not for certain external help.

Yang Potian began to realize just how intense Shura's power truly was, even strong enough to seep into the Sea God's Light. This indicated that Shura's power was far stronger than the Sea God's. Reflecting on the trials, Yang Potian grew increasingly frustrated. With his current strength, he should have no trouble inheriting a godly position, so why was the Shura God imposing such strange challenges?

He knew that, in theory, after passing the sixth trial of the Shura God, the remaining tests should fall into place. The seventh trial would grant a godly weapon, and the eighth would stabilize his spirit power.

The appearance of Tang San only added to Yang Potian's doubts. Tang San's recent sinister aura seemed to indicate divine intervention. Was he also receiving the attention of a deity?

After much deliberation, Yang Potian decided to consider alternative paths. Perhaps, he thought, if inheriting the Shura God's position was so obstructed, he would abandon it altogether.

Historically, achieving godhood was incredibly difficult. In Douluo Dalu, only a few, like Tang San, inherited divine powers, with thousands of years passing before another god could be born. There were a few other potential paths to divinity, but each was more challenging than the last.

One option was self-created divinity, or becoming a Rank 100 god without an inherited title. Both paths, however, were long and arduous. Creating a godly position typically required centuries of cultivation and immense faith. The Sea God and Angel God had both followed this path.

Becoming a Rank 100 god without a divine title was nearly unheard of, with the original story's Demon Emperor being one of the few exceptions.

Frustrated, Yang Potian let out a roar, causing the heavens and earth to tremble. His usually calm eyes turned blood-red, just as they had been when he first gained the Killing God Domain. Memories from his past and present lives flooded his mind—his past struggles for survival, and his tireless efforts in Douluo Continent to strengthen himself and protect his family. All these achievements seemed insignificant to the gods of the Divine Realm, who viewed mortals as mere ants.

In particular, Yang Potian recalled how easily Tang San had been handed the Shura God's position without truly completing any trial. It felt as though the gods were treating him like a puppet, pulling his strings without any empathy or understanding.

Feeling a wave of rebellion rise within him, Yang Potian instinctively drew the Shura Devil Sword. Despite wielding this supreme weapon, he'd always felt a strange distance from it. In the original story, Tang San had been guided by the Sea God upon receiving the Sea God's Trident, yet no such guidance had been given by the Shura God.

After an indeterminate amount of time, Yang Potian's mind cleared, bringing a deep sense of tranquility. If the Shura God wouldn't grant him the position, he'd take it himself.

Once he'd regained his composure, Yang Potian set about organizing affairs at Tianxing Academy. He kept an eye on Yang Tianyue and Yang Ping'an's progress in controlling their bloodlust, sharing his own experiences in taming the Killing God Domain to minimize their struggles. He hoped Yang Tianyue could master her bloodlust swiftly and complete her Sea God trial as soon as possible.

At one point, Tianmeng Iceworm, residing within Yang Tianyue, muttered, "Brother Yang, you're getting really worked up. Little Yueyue has plenty of time ahead of her. What's the rush?"

Yang Potian replied, "Something feels wrong. Tang San's recent visit here showed he's under divine influence, and Bibi Dong of the Wuhun Empire is likely close to godhood as well. We need to pick up our pace."

Despite his lightheartedness, Tianmeng understood the vast gap between mortals and gods. Letting their enemies ascend first would be disastrous, leaving them utterly vulnerable.

Next, Yang Potian made sure Tianxing Academy's Soul Guidance research was well on track. Following his directives, the academy began prioritizing offensive Soul Guidance Devices, including powerful Soul Bombs. Should a beast tide occur, these weapons would be invaluable for fending off soul beasts.

Leaving a large stock of resources for his parents and a significant amount for Ye Lingling, Yang Potian then departed alone to Slaughter City—the birthplace of his Shura God inheritance and, hopefully, the answers he sought.

Upon arriving, he bypassed everything else and headed directly to the Hell Road's altar—the entrance to the Shura God's Temple.
