Chapter 228 - Chapter 227: Sixty-Nine

Norj tensed. "The feed is delayed!! That means he's been here for a while!!"

The moment he finished speaking, he disappeared and reappeared above the battlefield. However, before he could do anything, a figure leaped in front of him and smashed him with a massive fist. Norj was sent flying like a meteor.

"Damn it! Leave me alone!!" he shouted, forcefully stopping himself before he could be flung even further. Opening his interface, he noticed that hundreds of his troops had disappeared from the raid group.

"Damn it! Damn it! Our elites!!" He gritted his teeth in anger and jumped back into the battlefield.

Pushing his [Detection] skill to the limit, he noticed several figures appearing and disappearing, hiding in [Alternate Dimensions], [Void Tunnels], or [Shadow Realms]. Furious, he appeared behind an Alter Ego who had just exited a [Void Tunnel] and grabbed him by the neck.

"You persistent rat!" he growled before crushing him.

[You have eliminated a Tier 2 enemy player from the New World Kingdom.]

[You have been awarded 150,000 War Points.]

"Tier 2? Such a monster is only Tier 2? Seriously?" he complained before vanishing again, appearing in front of another Alter Ego. As he extended his hand toward the Alter Ego named Sixty, he felt something through his senses and stopped his attack. He barely had time to raise his arms in self-defense before a massive leg swing sent him flying at lightning speed. While he shot through the sky, Norj looked down at the figure who kept interrupting him and fumed in anger.

"Enkidu! Do you have to target me in such chaos?!" he shouted at the massive figure.

However, Enkidu ignored him and turned his attention to other figures who had entered the battlefield. The titan didn't allow anyone above a certain level to interfere in the battle, ensuring that powerhouses couldn't approach the King.

Reappearing beside his wife, Norj spoke, "Enkidu is still in its first phase and won't let me get close. We need to abort this raid and send everyone back to safety before we lose more elite soldiers. Command your legion to retreat and protect them from Sora Hashino. I'll contact the commanders from the other races to do the same before we lose everyone of value."

Simone nodded, and both of them vanished from their positions.

Appearing next to a Demon and a Spirit who were wiping blood from their mouths, Norj said, "Srap Nel, Pukk, let's give up on the raid. With that human's interference, our losses will surpass our gains even if the raid succeeds. The goal was to raise the level of all our armies above 250, not lose half of our talents in the process."

Both players were extremely high level and held commanding positions in the raid.

[Sharp Nel - Level 280]

The Demon had the same last name as Abbott and Kro, with an appearance similar to that of the Demon King's son.

If Sora were present, he would have recognized the second figure.

[Pukk - Level 265]

It was the player from the Spirit Race who had reached the semi-finals on the sixteenth floor of the Ascension Tower.

Despite being level 290, Norj did not look down on the other commanders and spoke without a hint of superiority in his voice.

Sharp spoke first, "I agree that losing our elites would sting, and we should give up on the Gilgamesh and Enkidu. However, that doesn't mean retreat is our only option. We can rely on Pukk and his special forces to make Sora Hashino pay for leaving his rat hole."

Norj looked at the two in surprise and asked, "You have a plan?"

Pukk nodded.

--------------------------------------

Sora smiled as he noted the growth of his Alter Egos.

'They're all growing at an incredible rate. Most of the Alter Egos who survived are beyond level 210, and many have already hit level 220!'

'Only twenty of them died. And they all went to different regions to reach level 200 again after they prestiged.'

Reading the chat and the endless flow of questions, he spoke.

"As you can see, there are new events in our territory, and what you're seeing is our attempt to sabotage the enemy's raid against Mythic Bosses. Our team has decided not to take its aggro, and it seems that every extremely high-level player close to it quickly gets slapped away, which is working in our—"

Feeling that something was wrong, he shifted his attention to Sixty-Nine, who had just reconnected to him through [Mind Synchronization].

Witnessing a shocking scene, he gritted his teeth and decided to hide part of the truth from the viewers.

--------------------------------------

[You have died.]

Sixty-Nine dismissed the notification about his death and immediately activated his [Prestige] skill, absorbing a [Blood Essence] drop to reach level 50 upon reviving.

Appearing a distance away from Toronto, he ignored the battle happening nearby and headed toward the Great Canyon in Arizona.

'Fighting in North America really is the best. There are hunting grounds for all levels!!'

Traveling at high speed, Sixty-Nine reconnected to Sora's [Mind Synchronization] web and focused on killing monsters along the way. However, a few seconds later, upon reaching level 160, he felt an overwhelming force locking him in place. Turning around to look at his enemy, he failed to see the enemy's name or figure… His vision turned dark, and a familiar notification appeared in front of him.

[You have died.]

[Innate Skill: Prestige has been triggered.]

[Do you wish to select a new identity?]

[Yes] [No]

Floating in the void, Sixty-Nine hesitated.

'I have a bad feeling about this… How did I die?'

Dismissing his doubts, he selected [No] and chose a location as far from his previous death as possible. He reappeared somewhere above a mountain range, unsure if he was in Colorado or New Mexico. Feeling his heart racing, he immediately absorbed a drop of [Blood Essence].

[Level Up!] x49

[You have reached Level 50.]

Sixty-Nine heaved a sigh of relief as the feared situation didn't happen. Reconnecting to Sora's mental web, he relaxed and began moving.

However, the moment he left his position to attack a nearby monster, the world turned dark again.

[You have died.]

His [Prestige] skill was triggered once more. And once again, he hesitated.

'This is what we were fearing. Someone is hunting me down… But I don't know anything about the opponent! Damn it, this is so humiliating.'

Frustration built up inside him.

'I need to warn the others.'

Aware that every moment counted, he revived without changing his identity and appeared again.

Repeating the routine of absorbing a drop of [Blood Essence] and reconnecting to Sora, he immediately sent a message through their mental connection.

"I was killed twice by enemy powerhouses. They're spawn-killing me, and I almost died permanently in my previous death. Expecting to die again soon."

Before he could receive an answer, someone appeared in front of him and sighed.

"Seems like I was too slow… This plan will need a bit more manpower and teamwork." The figure spoke before slowly swinging a staff at Sixty-Nine.

Sixty-Nine quickly read his opponent's name.

[Xéros - Level ???]

He used all his power and speed to dodge the attack. However, before he could understand what was happening, his world turned dark once more.

[You have died.]

'I saw this trash earlier, he was part of the raid troops. He wasn't even level 220! Damn it! Why am I getting killed by random minions!!'

Sixty-Nine fumed at the thought. Unwilling to give up, he chose to return using his [Prestige] at the furthest possible distance from his enemy. He took out a [Blood Essence] drop from his inventory and listened to Sora's answer while recovering.

"Don't force it. The situation seems desperate for you, come back in a month and join a safe area upon returning."

Sixty-Nine sneered at Sora's instructions and thought, 'As long as I keep reaching level 50 upon respawning, I'll be fine. One Hundred-One is right. If we want to win the war, we need to grow a pair.'

Remembering his brother's words, he steeled himself for battle and released his mental power to properly assess the situation. Sensing dozens of beings above his current level in his surroundings, he frowned. However, as he expanded the range of his scan, his expression darkened. Hundreds of enemy players filled the region.

'And these are only the ones I can detect… I can't even sense any Spirits or players with decent mental defenses!'

Summoning a [Void Tunnel] and cloaking himself to erase his presence, Sixty-Nine attempted to leave the area. However, he hadn't even traveled a hundred kilometers when someone appeared in front of him and killed him.

[You have died.]

Once more, he floated in the now too-familiar void. Annoyed, he stared at the notification in silence.

'How can I escape this trap? All the players gridlocking the area are above level 200… And I can't even sense or see their attacks before reaching 150 or 160. The one who killed me when I hit level 170 was probably even stronger.'

'Brother Sixty wasn't wrong. We should have all prepared a few level 200 [Blood Essence] drops… But we barely had time to get ready. Damn it.'

Shaking his head, he dismissed his frustration.

'Not the time for excuses. Let's jump back in. After two or three deaths, I should be able to reach Los Angeles.'

Activating [Prestige], he selected a spot southwest of his previous death location.

Taking out a [Blood Essence] from his inventory, he absorbed it.
