Lanling jumped out of the window just as his sister was about to call him down for lunch.
"What in the nine hells! Lingling!" Meixi shrieked behind him.
"I'll be back!" he shouted, not daring to look back.
Without hesitation, he called lightning into his legs, the current sparking under his skin. With the mastery he had gained over the years, he shot forward in a flash, disappearing into the thick crowd that clogged the main street like a living river.
Behind him, Meixi stood frozen in the middle of the courtyard, hands still cupped around her mouth. Her shocked expression would have been hilarious if Lanling had stayed long enough to see it.
