Kai froze, turning back slowly to stare at the girl who stared back at him like a cat bubbling with curiosity. He didn't know why but her question made something dark in him threaten to appear on the surface. That voice in his head rattles inside his head more violently than ever.
"What did you say?" He demanded forcing his voice to sound deep in hope of intimidating her but she seemed unfazed and unafraid. He wondered if she was even scared of anything.
Lyanna tilted her head to the side, something flashing in her eyes… worry, sadness. Clearing her throat she repeated in an unwavering tone. "I was only asking if… if you're a demon?"
Somehow the question itself offended him. He wondered what about him made her think he was one of those disgusting creatures. His throat went dry.
