My plan had been to come in and get what I wanted. I told myself I wouldn't entertain any bullshit or delays from Chiara, but with my curiosity burning, I moved closer to her and looked in the frying pan.
"Are these carrots?"
"Yes."
The cooking had turned the vegetables from orange to a reddish colour, but they still looked the part and could be identified. My eyes narrowed as I saw them sizzling, but before I could shake my head, I noticed the steam rising.
"Water."
"Yeah, I'm frying it."
"With water."
"Something like that."
Chiara watched as my face scrunched in confusion, and she spoke before I could ask another question.
"It's better if you just observe and enjoy. Everything I'm doing here, you've never seen before. Come have a look."
I moved towards the pot the woman was currently attending, peering into it and widening my eyes at the sight of a large piece of meat floating and spinning over boiling water.
