Chapter 5 - CH 5: A farming contest and the old lady

Third person POV:

"yawn", Ken woke up all drowsy before the sun came up and prepped for his day as usual.

"Gotta first check out the tomatoes, do a light warm-up for today's contest and exercise a bit.", he quickly freshened up his face before going about his morning.

After finishing his morning tasks he returned home and had breakfast with his parents.

"Ken, have you read the letter from your sister yet?"

"Yep and it seems like she's having plenty of fun bullying her peers."

"HAHAHAHAHA, you're right about that son, she does love making her superiority clear most times. I hope you're excited for today's contest son."

"Of course I am Dad, I mean this will be my second encounter with this world's power system after all hehe"

"Quit yappin' all over the food you two and eat like civilized people! "

"Sorry wife...."

"Sorry mom"

********************************

few hours later

"Wow, the main fields are way larger than I thought", Ken was of course surprised by the sheer volume of plain land plus vegetation he was seeing as it is his first time in both his lives seeing this.

"Dad, I forgot to ask you earlier but how rare is a SSS-tier talent"

"Well rare is a very heavy understatement child so listen carefully. Our world Ko'rath has only been awakened for approximately four hundred thousand years. There were only 3 SSS-tier talent holders in all those years, and each of them became so powerful they left Ko'rath for more powerful worlds."

"So Kiara is the Fourth person in history to....no way....",

"Of course HAHAHAHAHAHA"

Ken was actually shocked, while his dad simply boomed in loud and proud laughter at his son's expression.

"I think I underestimated sis a bit too much, here I was, thinking that there would be a few more SSS talents from royal families or something."

"Look alive kiddo the competition is starting soon."

"Yeah...still shocked"

"Ok, enough distraction I have to focus on today's contest, even though I won't be participating. First thing's first, the contest is about which farmer can grow the healthiest bean stalk in the shortest time and my goal is to observe the spells and skills they will be using"

"Announcement all farmers, please move to your designated areas alongside your helpers right now, we will begin in 5 minutes! "-a loud voice suddenly rang across the fields and the crowd. Everyone quickly moved to the measured square spaces labelled with registration numbers including Ken and his dad as 'helpers' were basically anyone without a class to participate.

"Ok kid watch and learn closely just in case you awaken a farmer class like me"

"Mmmkay chief"

Yes Ken decided to be the Chief's helper since his father has no class and the chief is the highest ranked farmer.

"Everyone are we READY!!! "

"YEAHHHHH!!!!! "

"Let the 50th year anniversary farming contest BEGIN!!!! "

"Wooooo, Get them chief"

"Let's gooooo"

"I'm definitely betting on the chief"

"This contest never gets old"

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as many people cheered on the farmers(mainly the chief) and loudly sang out songs and chants

"Ok let's start with the groundwork, [Skill: Life Soil]"- a soft green light emitted from the Chief's hand and seeped into the soil smoothly like oil with no impurities into a pot.

"This looks promising enough I guess, next up some fertilizing"

Ken simply observed in silence, aside from the effects of the Chief's skill he saw nothing else.

"This confirms that skills are 99 percent automatic. "

According to what Ken had learnt about awakeners they had 3 types of skills.

Innate skills gained from their class, also known as class perks, Traits or blessings gained from their race and religions, and finally acquired skills gained through certain experiences or special conditions.

All awakeners had a limit to how many skills they could possess, for innate skills the known maximum is 10 skills(5 passive and 5 active) specifically SS-rank awakeners. The Traits and blessings being 6 in total, 3 Traits and 3 blessings max each. Lastly acquired skills depend on talent tier.

F-tier talent has no potential to awaken any while SSS-tier talents like Kiara could acquire a maximum of 9 skills.

"Chief is an Apprentice rank so the Life soil must be his only active huh"

"Kiddo an hour is up let's go check out the bean"

"Yes sir"

The soil had a darker and richer brown color alongside a subtle glow on it's surface. Meanwhile the bean seed had germinated into a small but vibrant green stalk with one leaf and another leaf tiny but protruding from the side.

"HAHAHA, it seems by sunset my little bean will be tall and strong"

"Wow, so skills can accelerate weeks of growth into one day huh, no wonder we always have food in our village. "

"Yes kid, and now we can take a break and explore the festival as much as we want till our bean matures, now then to seal my win let's cast once more [Skill: Life Soil]"

Ken nodded once more towards the chief before leaving and exploring the stalls. The atmosphere was still active and cheerful as all the other farmers at Novice rank or early Apprentice worked on their beans while the helpers carried food, water and decorations all around the fields.

As Ken continued exploring he came across an interesting stall that read "Talent Simulator: check if you have a chance for a talent. "-curios of this stall with many youngsters Ken decided to approach it as well.

"Child, don't fall for such obvious scams there is no diviner in this world capable of foreseeing one's future talent or fate"-a melodious and mature feminine voice caused Ken to stop in his tracks and turn to a graceful and beautiful elderly lady.

Her posture betrayed her age as she remained straight and impressively tall at almost 2 meters. Locks of shining silver and purple hair framed her finely aged face with few wrinkles added a charm of wisdom around her.

"Child, come over I have something more interesting to show you"
