"Let's go, Luke," Gwen called out, heading towards the bus station.
The two of them chatted and laughed along the way. They hadn't even waited for two minutes at the station when the school bus arrived.
"Lucky!"
Gwen flashed Luke a victory sign before turning and boarding the bus. Following her usual habit, she handed a box of snacks to the bus driver, earning a warm, affectionate smile from the bus driver.
Luke quickly followed, but as he was walking toward an empty seat, he overheard some infuriating words.
"Look, it's the son of that murderer."
"He rides the bus with us every day. Hope he doesn't hurt us."
"Who knows? Stay away from him, he's disgusting! If he dares to make a move, we'll teach him a lesson together!"
"Yeah!"
Luke stopped in his tracks, clenched his fists, and stared at the two kids whispering and giggling together.
The two of them turned to look at him, their faces full of provocation.
Just as Luke was about to raise his hand, Gwen grabbed his arm. "Don't pay attention to them. They're just two losers looking for attention."
Gwen gave the two boys a disdainful glance.
The two boys' faces turned red. "What did you say?"
"Did I say something wrong? You're not handsome, you don't do well in school, and your personalities suck. None of you can compare to Luke. Where do you get this sense of superiority from?" Gwen pointed at them and retorted, "And by the way, Luke's mom was wrongfully accused!"
Luke felt a surge of gratitude and tugged at Gwen's arm. "Let's go, I'm not angry anymore."
"Ha! Can only rely on a girl to protect you…" one of the boys sneered.
"If you keep talking like that, I'll sue you for defamation and mental distress!" Gwen coldly scoffed. "Do you believe I can call my lawyer right now? When you get home, your parents will give you a good beating!"
The two boys stared at Gwen, wide-eyed.
"Huh?"
Gwen let out a small, disdainful hum.
Immediately, the two boys lowered their heads.
"Let's go!"
Gwen lifted her chin proudly, like a small peacock. She gave the bus driver a shy smile, gave a quick glance at the driver's thumbs-up, and then took her seat.
"What's with the look?"
Seeing Luke staring at her, Gwen felt a little embarrassed and asked.
Luke quickly averted his gaze. "I just think you're really impressive."
"It's nothing," Gwen chuckled. "Isn't that how they act in TV shows?"
Luke couldn't help but smile. "Thanks."
"No problem," Gwen waved her hand grandly. "From now on, I've got your back. My dad always says, loyalty is important."
Luke nodded.
Meanwhile, back at home, Mike put away his X-ray vision and super hearing, his expression turning a little strange.
"Loyalty matters?"
Was that something I taught them?
When did I...?
Mike suddenly remembered watching a Chinese movie once, and he might have, perhaps unintentionally, said something like that.
Thinking about Gwen growing up, wielding a machete with a dragon tattooed on her arm, leading a gang of Luke and his friends, causing chaos in the streets, and ruling Hell's Kitchen, Mike's head momentarily went blank.
No, that absolutely cannot happen.
Such a thing is not suitable for Gwen. If it were Clark and his three friends doing it, I might…
Ugh!
I can't accept that either.
Why on earth would a perfectly good kid become a gangster?
Shaking these ridiculous thoughts from his mind, Mike glanced at the calendar.
"The kids must be about to start spring break. Should I take Gwen out for a trip?"
Muttering to himself, Mike couldn't help but think of a gentle, smiling face in his mind.
Damn it, why did I think of that person?
Remembering his previous encounters, Mike's face darkened.
However, since Gwen became his daughter, they still hadn't had a chance to go out and have some fun together...
Rubbing his chin, Mike pondered for a moment before making a decision.
It's time to go out!
As for where to go?
I'll just randomly pick somewhere after Gwen's spring break—there's no way I'll run into that person again!
Looking at the new students' profiles, Charles smiled slightly.
Good, the school was gradually getting back on track.
However...
Thinking of the yet-to-be-confirmed Logan, Charles rubbed his forehead with a bit of a headache.
Remy Lebeau and Scott had both agreed to stay on as teachers, but Logan had not given his approval yet. Although he was currently staying at the school, if he didn't agree, that guy could leave at any moment.
After spending some time with him, Charles had realized Logan's value.
Whenever Logan appeared, even the mischievous kids would turn into angels—it was like he was the perfect candidate for head of discipline.
Logan's bad temper...
Could it be that only his father could handle him?
Knock knock!
The sudden knock on the door snapped Charles out of his thoughts. He was surprised when Logan walked in and asked, "So, you said you wanted me to stay at the school as a teacher, right?"
Charles looked at Logan in surprise.
Why is he bringing it up now?
He nodded. "Yes."
"Well, let me ask you something. If someone comes to the school looking for trouble with me, what would you do?" Logan asked seriously.
Charles narrowed his eyes slightly and crossed his arms on the desk. "It depends on what kind of trouble, and who is causing it."
"It's someone troublesome. She's been coming after me," Logan replied.
Charles's curiosity was piqued, though he maintained his calm demeanor. "Why is she after you?"
The spark of gossip ignited in Charles, but his face remained gentle and composed.
"Because..." Logan slammed his fist onto the desk. "This has nothing to do with you."
The brief awkwardness and uncertainty in Logan's expression didn't go unnoticed by Charles. He suddenly lowered his voice and asked, "Uncle Logan, is that person your girlfriend or something? Did you have a fight?"
"Girlfiend?!" Logan exclaimed in anger. "We only slept together once, and now that woman won't leave me alone!"
Logan shouted, then blinked, grabbed Charles by the collar, and angrily added, "You little brat, are you trying to get me to spill the beans?"
Charles laughed and patted Logan's hand.
Fuming, Logan released Charles and said, "You're just like your father, sneaky!"
"Oh, thank you for the compliment!" Charles said with a smile. "I'll be sure to tell my dad."
Logan's face stiffened, and he quickly replied, "Alright, enough of this! Are you going to help me or not?"
"Is she a mutant?" Charles asked.
"Yes!" Logan confirmed.
Charles thought for a moment. "Alright, if you stay and become a teacher, I'll handle things when she comes looking for you."
"Deal!" Logan said happily, turning and striding out of the office.
You better not regret it when you see that woman, kid!
Charles smiled as he watched Logan's retreating figure.
Hey!
When she shows up, the school might end up with a new teacher after all.
Outside the Office
When Remy Lebeau saw Logan come out with a big smile, he asked, "Got it all settled?"
"Yeah!" Logan replied cheerfully.
"Did you tell Charles who she is?" Remy asked.
"Why should I?"
"Well, she..." Remy trailed off.
"I'll buy you a drink!" Logan quickly interrupted.
