Mr. Collins looked at Mia and said slowly, "Mia, do you know how angry I was when I found out you were secretly involved with William behind my back?"

Mia remembered her father's stern warnings at the time. Her father knew she had feelings for William, yet he always wanted her to "pursue" Kingsly. She had never disobeyed her father before, but because of William, she had secretly dated him.

Mr. Collins seemed to be immersed in the pain of being "betrayed" by his daughter. His aged face twitched slightly. "But you're my daughter, and I couldn't be angry with you. Even if you insisted on marrying William, I couldn't stop you..."

"Dad—" Mia's throat choked up. She had never imagined that her insistence on marrying William had caused her father such embarrassment and pain.
