William smiled again. "Darling, why would I want to divorce you?"
"What 'darling'..." Mia said awkwardly, embarrassed to use the term he had just called her, yet annoyed that he did.
He had called her that before, but mostly in bed. She knew he wouldn't use it in private, so she hated him calling her that now, with such a natural tone, as if they had been deeply in love. She hated him acting as if he loved her.
"When you left, I had the time and the ability to stop you, but after thinking about it, I ultimately didn't." William suddenly spoke to her with conviction.
Thinking about the tears she shed on the plane, Mia felt a sourness at the tip of her nose. "If that's the case, why come here now?... Isn't it better for us to go our separate ways?"
"No." William, usually shrewd and composed, mimicked her somewhat childish tone. "You left with our child. What am I supposed to do?"
"What do you mean? What are you supposed to do? We..." She looked up at him, confused.
