Chapter 58 - Mysterious Entity

"BEGONE!!!"

The shout echoed throughout the space as if Mark were standing in a cave with the sound bouncing all around him. The sound simply existed everywhere at once, as though it had always been present in the middle of the void and was only now being acknowledged.

The white void began convulsing violently.

Dozens of glowing blue tentacles erupted outward from the center of the Entity, tearing through the empty space toward Mark in a coordinated surge of movement. They moved like living whips, snapping and coiling with impossible speed, each one as thick as a street pole and crackling with unfamiliar energy that hummed against his senses.

Mark reacted instantly, his body moving on instinct upon getting a weird feeling coming from the tentacles.

He shot upward and then sharply to the side, twisting midair as several tentacles narrowly missed his torso. One grazed his shoulder, and the contact sent a weird sensation due to energy emitting from it. The sensation was not the type of pain he was familiar with from brute force or energy blasts, but something deeper, more intrusive, as if the energy was trying to probe beneath his skin.

He flipped end over end, redirecting his momentum with practiced ease as he flew through the gaps between them. The void lit up with streaks of blue energy as the tentacles snapped closed behind him, narrowly missing his legs.

There were far too many of them.

Mark realized this immediately.

He weaved and looped around the tendrils, deliberately crossing their paths and forcing several of them to collide and tangle together. They wrapped around one another, constricting in a writhing knot, glowing brighter as energy surged through them. Before they could untangle themselves, Mark surged forward, his hands glowing as he sliced through them in a blur of controlled motion with his extended arm.

The tentacles severed cleanly with Mark using his Viltrumite chop, drifting apart in glowing fragments that dissolved slowly into particles of light.

Mark pressed the advantage without hesitation, accelerating toward the center of the storm.

If the Entity possessed a core or a physical body, it had to be there.

'I think I caught a glimpse of a physical body there, and I also need to reach that orb containing Mark,' Mark thought.

He slashed again and again, carving a path through the writhing mass with precise and efficient movements. He did not hesitate or waste motion. His strikes were economical, driven by experience rather than brute force, as he cut closer to the presumed center of the entity.

Despite his efforts, more tentacles continued to pour out, seemingly from nowhere. He couldn't understand it. Where were these many tentacles coming from? Even though he had cut so many down, it was like more and more were being made faster than he could cut.

Mark felt his jaw tighten as the realization settled in. The Entity was not expending effort. It was producing these extensions the way a body produced hair or nails, endlessly and without strain.

This was becoming overwhelming.

He adjusted his trajectory, boosting upward in an attempt to gain a better angle, when suddenly the world lurched violently around him.

"What?" he blurted out in surprise.

Something wrapped tightly around his leg.

Before he could react, the tentacle yanked him backward with tremendous force.

Mark was ripped through the void, the sudden acceleration snapping his spine straight as he slammed through empty space. His vision blurred for a split second as he tumbled uncontrollably, momentum carrying him far from the center of the mass.

He twisted midflight, forcing his body to respond as he regained control. His boots skidded against nothing as he slowed himself to a stop, hovering unsteadily.

When he looked around, he froze.

The tentacles he had cut earlier were not gone.

They were spreading.

The severed pieces had embedded themselves into the whiteness of the void, branching outward like roots forced into fertile soil. They split and multiplied, intertwining as they grew brighter and expanded in every direction. What had once been empty, infinite space was now crowded with glowing structures that pulsed like a living nervous system.

The white void itself was disappearing.

Mark turned slowly, his eyes widening as the scale of it became apparent.

They surrounded him completely.

Above him.

Below him.

Behind him.

Closing in from every possible angle.

Mark's breath hitched as disbelief flooded his expression.

"What is this?" he demanded aloud. "What are you? How are you doing this?"

Mark was struggling to comprehend what he was seeing. He had thought that the white void they were in was seemingly infinite, but he could see the tentacles continuing to surround him as if the whiteness of the void was replaced with glowing blue tendrils.

The Entity's glow intensified as its central mass shifted, tendrils curling inward and outward in a deliberate, rhythmic motion that felt almost like breathing.

"You ask questions your simple mind cannot comprehend," the Entity replied, its voice layered with growing intensity. "I am beyond your understanding."

The tentacles surged again, tightening their hold on the space around him without striking yet, as though the Entity were savoring the moment.

"I am giving the boy an opportunity," the entity continued. "A chance to correct his past failures. His existence is a crucial cog in the mechanisms of this universe. By sending him back, I shape the future and sculpt a reality free from the continuous bloodshed that perpetuates right now. The Viltrumites... the Earthlings... and beyond will all be fixed by me."

The light flared brighter as the Entity spoke with increasing fervor, its energy flooding the void.

"With his return, I become the architect of a new universe, one far more peaceful than the one you cling to."

Under different circumstances, Mark might have interrupted what was clearly a villain's monologue. However, his attention was consumed by what he was witnessing.

His vision was extraordinary, capable of perceiving across spectrums no human could imagine. He could see atomic structures, energy flows, and gravitational distortions. Yet the space around him defied logic in ways that strained even his enhanced perception and Kryptonian mind.

Distance warped and twisted unpredictably.

Some tentacles appeared close but felt impossibly far, while others seemed distant yet brushed against his skin moments later. His depth perception fractured as the void refused to behave like any space he had ever encountered.

Mark slapped both hands against his cheeks, grounding himself.

"Focus," he muttered to himself.

He locked his gaze toward the center of the mass.

He still could not see the entity's body, but something changed as he stared.

His perception shifted as his mind adapted, compensating for the distortion. The tentacles were not everywhere. They were folded through layers of space, overlapping dimensions of distance. What looked vast and endless was in fact compressed, layered, and manipulated.

The core was far closer than it appeared.

'Super senses can be deceived,' he noted grimly. 'I need to remember that for future issues.'

Mark took off again.

He tore through the tendrils, slicing and burning his way forward with renewed focus. However, for every tentacle he cut, two more emerged to replace it. The entity continued spewing them endlessly, the blue glow intensifying with each passing second.

This approach was not going to work. It felt like the Entity could keep going like this forever. While Mark didn't know who between the two of them had the greater stamina, he didn't want to spend much longer dealing with it.

Mark slowed midair and began thinking quickly, forcing himself to stop reacting and start adapting.

If physical attacks were meaningless, then brute force was not the answer.

He brought his hands together and focused inward.

Energy began to surge through him, different from his usual strength. This was not Viltrumite or Kryptonian muscle. This was something less physical, more explosive.

His magic.

Mark thrust his palms forward and unleashed a massive beam of fire, white hot and roaring, fueled not by solar energy but by his own mana. The flames tore through the tentacles in an explosion that shook the void itself, sending ripples through the surrounding space.

The entity cried out in pain.

The sound was sharp, piercing, and unmistakably real.

Mark's eyes widened slightly at the reaction. That was the first genuine response he had managed to provoke.

"You... you... you actually managed to hurt me," the Entity said, its voice laced with shock.

That shock quickly turned into rage.

"YOU SHALL DIEEEEE FOR THAT!"

The blue light intensified, becoming blinding.

Tentacles wrapped around Mark's legs and arms faster than he could sever them. He struggled as muscles strained against the constriction, when pain exploded through his body.

Mark screamed as electric energy surged through the tendrils, bypassing his bioelectric aura with ease. The energy tore through his nervous system, lighting his senses and body on fire. His bioelectrical aura was useless as the attack burned directly through him, and only his Viltrumite durability helped him endure the electricity.

The Entity slammed him downward repeatedly.

Each impact shook the void beneath him, pain blooming across his body in ways he had not experienced in a while. The tentacles hauled him upward by the wrists, stretching his arms and legs wide and apart as energy gathered at the center of the tentacles and brought him closer to it.

A concentrated beam fired and struck Mark squarely in the chest.

He screamed again as the blast burned through his skin, searing flesh and leaving charred marks across his torso. The smell of ozone and scorched energy filled the air.

Mark was thrown aside violently.

Before he could recover, tentacles appeared above him and began hammering him downward, each blow driving him deeper into the ground. The impacts came faster and heavier, each strike hurting more than the last.

Dust and glowing debris filled the air as the assault continued.

Mark's vision blurred as realization hit him.

'This energy is bypassing my bioelectrical aura entirely. Kinda like magic. Guess I can only fight fire with fire.'

A tentacle slammed him again, cracking the surface beneath him.

He grit his teeth and roared loudly, unleashing a massive gust of wind magic that tore and sliced the tendrils away from him. The blast scattered fragments of glowing tendrils and gave him a brief moment to recover.

"That's enough," Mark said aloud, forcing himself upright despite the pain that still lingered.

He crossed his arms over his chest and focused inward, drawing on something deeper than strength.

His body responded instantly.

His skin hardened as crystalline structures spread across his body, replacing flesh with something far more resilient. His entire form transformed into living sunstone, glowing with a deep blue sheen that reflected the Entity's light back at it.

Sunstone was one of Krypton's most versatile materials. It was self-replicating, architecturally programmable, and durable enough to endure cosmic forces that would reduce most substances to dust. Krypton had relied on it to construct its cities and spacecraft for a reason.

As an Earth Magi, Mark could command it, create it, and become it, even if his mastery was still imperfect.

The transformation dramatically increased his durability and enhanced his resistance to magical energy-based attacks. While he still did not know whether the entity's power was strictly magical, it was clear that magic-based defenses were far more effective against it than brute physical force alone.

Mark lowered his arms and stared into the writhing mass of glowing tendrils ahead of him, his crystalline form reflecting their light.

His expression hardened with resolve.

"Alright," he said calmly, his voice echoing through the void. "Let's try this again. Time for round 2, Squidward."

The entity recoiled slightly, its tendrils pulling back as the light surrounding its form flared in response.

The void itself trembled as the confrontation escalated.
