Chapter 147 - Chapter 146 - Strange Love, Experiments & Absolute Dominance III

####

4 AM, Hogwarts,

"Where is Dudley?"

"I couldn't find him anywhere," Hermione said, her brow furrowed with concern. "Susan and Hannah haven't a clue where he is. They only saw him last night."

Harry scowled and stared at the moonlit sky. "W… We can't wait. I saw it, Hermione. He'll attack the Ministry. I saw blood… so much blood. And he has an army this time. So many wizards… they were all wearing masks. Sirius will die… I can't let that happen."

"We'll go and help them, mate. Don't worry." Ron patted his friend's shoulder. "You're not alone."

"He's right, Harry," Luna added.

"We're with you." Ginny held her wand.

Neville was also there.

"Let's go."

In the end, Harry chose to leave.

Crystal Cave, England, Great Britain,

Woosh!

Woosh!

Twenty-five figures apparated at the opening of the mysterious cave. Twenty-one were dressed in black, long leather coats, and their entire heads covered in white magical masks that had no shape of eyes or mouth. Just a smooth, white surface, making them mysterious and also frightening.

The most distinct thing about them was the colored stripe on the right cuffs of their leather coat. It was all red colored, one man had two red strips, and the rest had just one red strip. It denoted their rank within their division. The color was the name of their division. Two stripes meant captains, one stripe meant combatants, and three stripes meant division commander.

Furthermore, there were four men who looked the most different. While their shirts and pants were black, and their heads were covered in the same white mask, they wore white long coats.

And finally, there was Dudley, wearing all black, but no stripes on the cuff, and his mask was slightly golden.

"Captain Tex, lead the way."

"Understood, Mr. X."

Dudley was Mr. X to them. He was Mister. X to the entire Vanguards. But they knew who he was as they had sworn to him.

"Doctor Sharp, Doctor Cell, Doctor Needle, and Doctor Flask." Dudley looked at the four men in white coats. "Stay close to me. Don't touch the water. Treat the cave as you would a Lethifold, a swarm of them."

The white coated men were members of R&D. And yes, everyone in Vanguards used codenames. Dudley had to memorize them, but after years of Arithmancy, it wasn't a big deal.

"Understood, Sir."

What followed was a display of utmost professionalism. The Vanguards entered in formations, the men at the front were cursebreakers, using their magic to detect any traps and other problems. The men behind were all ready to cast spells to protect themselves and their leader, Dudley.

Dudley had already briefed them about what lay under the water. And honestly, the White Coats were there for the Inferi. However, that was for later.

Woosh!

With the army were also five House-Elves. They were dressed in dark as well, but their faces weren't covered. They got to work and used their magic to Apparate all of them to the island in the cave.

"Bring him over," Dudley ordered.

Quickly, the Vanguards at the far back dragged a man forward, gripping him from both sides. There was no mask on him; it wasn't needed.

"Rabastan Lestrange," Dudley voiced. "Drink the potion in the basin. Do not stop until it's all gone."

Rigidly, without a single reaction or word, Rebastan Lestrange, the famed Death Eater, stepped forward and scooped some water. Without hesitation, he started drinking.

"Aaaagh!" Rabastan fell to his knees and groaned.

"Drink!" Dudley ordered again.

Rabastan moved like his body was a machine. He got on his knees and scooped the basin.

"Noooo—Aaaaargh! No, no!"

Just the second scoop, and Rabastan started to cry, real tears rolling from his eyes. His snot disgustingly followed.

Dudley was running out of patience. "His mind is willing, but his body refuses. Two of you steady him, and the third… feed him."

Right away, two Vanguards grabbed Rabastan's arms, hoisted him up. The third Vanguard scooped water and fed it to Rabastan. Of course, Rabastan cried, screamed, groaned, begged, but he still drank. He never fought, never thrashed his arms and legs. The double-edged sword of Imperius and Unbreakable Vow hung heavy on him. There was no way out but to follow Dudley's words. He could fight Imperius, but not the vow. And the vow itself was simple—Never to disobey Dudley Dursley's command.

"G-Gaaaagh… No more… Please."

Rabastan kept crying. Kept shaking his head. Yet he kept drinking whenever the water touched his lips.

"You ought to be pleased, Rabastan. It's a gift from your Dark Lord, after all." Dudley sneered at the man. "And I thank you, sincerely, for your return from Azkaban."

"Please… Gluk…"

"Mr. X, the locket is visible," Captain Tex reported.

"Good, burn it. It's a fake one."

"What?" Rabastan shouted. "Then why did you make me…"

Dudley gave a small shrug. "Why not? I thought the Doctors ought to see the cave as it really is, in action. What they learn might be of great use to me one day. And as for the locket, I've got the genuine one already, found it in quite a peculiar spot, actually."

"W-Water! Give me water!" Rabastan cried, his eyes red, a side-effect of the potion, which made him immensely dehydrated.

"Let's move."

At Dudley's order, the House-Elves apparated all of them back across the lake. However, they didn't leave quickly.

"Release him."

At Dudley's orders, the Vanguards released Rabastan. As soon as that happened, the Death Eater ran towards the lake, crying, and scooped some water to drink it.

"Make sure to analyze everything," Dudley ordered the four researchers. "Check the cameras."

Meanwhile, Rabastan was busy drinking. He stopped using his hands and just shoved his face into the water to drink it.

"Do it!" Captain Tex shouted.

A Vanguard swung her wand and levitated Rabastan a few feet above the water.

Splash!

And then came the dark creatures, like an endless swarm. They had flesh on them, but looked far from human. Cloudy white eyes, pale white skin, hair still intact. They were corpses that were once humans. Dudley had no idea if Voldemort really killed that many people to make the Inferi, but he wouldn't be surprised if he did.

"Wraaaaaa-eeee!"

The splashes and the growls resounded. Rabastan, dangling in the air, cried, flailing his arms. Meanwhile, the researchers were busy writing things down, and the magical cameras were rolling. The Vanguards stood on alert, wands out, ready to fire spells.

Captain Tex commanded them. "Slowly, bring Rabastan closer, then grab one of the Inferi."

The Vanguards maneuvered everything. In no time, one Inferi was captured with a levitation spell. A coffin-like metal box was summoned then. As soon as its door was opened, the Inferi was sucked into it.

"We're done here." Dudley turned to head to the exit. "Bring Rabastan along. The Dark Lord will know if he dies."

"Mr. X, can't we dry the lake?" Doctor Sharp asked.

"Indeed. I would like to see their habitat," Doctor Cell added.

Dudley rubbed his chin. "We could, but it might draw the Dark Lord's eye. Best we face him first. After that, we'll bring the whole division in and see this cave cleared away."

"Wonderful!" Doctor Needle exclaimed. "This will help us tremendously to understand the life and death of a body and soul."

Dudley just rolled with it. He was an expert in Arithmancy, so he refrained from commenting on their research. As long as it kept moving, he kept funding.

Gaunt Shack, Outside Little Hangleton, Yorkshire, England,

BOOM!

The entire house, left in ruins, was levitated, obliterated, and cleared away. Not a single Vanguard moved near it. The cursebreakers were busy at work, sweeping the area for anything unusual. In no time, a golden box was found.

"Cursed!"

The cursebreakers instantly alerted everyone. Using magical means, the box was opened. Nobody touched it, and the ring was transferred to another metal box.

"Great!" Dudley clapped his hands and made a standard hand gesture to signal regrouping and moving. "Time to join the real battle, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's finished by now."

####

Ministry of Magic,

Boom!

"Aaaargh!"

"How could this be?!"

"Who are you?!"

The Department of Mysteries was a different matter. The Goblins were a different matter. An hour ago, a Vanguard disguised as Dudley entered the Ministry. The Goblins attacked, and then the Goblins got attacked.

BOOM!

It was chaos all across the Ministry. The Goblins had gathered a powerful force of one hundred. It was actually powerful, considerably powerful even. They were all dressed in enchanted armor from head to toe.

But common sense didn't apply when Vanguards entered the equation with a strength of one thousand wizards, all dressed in black clothes and white masks, looking like an army of shorter Slendermen.

BOOM!

The Vanguards somehow knew every single nook and cranny of the Ministry. They knew every single spot they could use for cover. Every spot they could use to trap the enemy.

The Goblins initially occupied the Atrium, the main entry area of the Ministry. But when the Vanguards appeared, they were pushed, and pushed, from Basement Level 8 to Basement Level 1, where the Minister for Magic's office lay.

BOOM!

Explosions were used. They weren't magical. The explosions carried shrapnel, and the Goblins fell victim. Their armors protected their vitals, not every inch of their body. It was, in a sense, a massacre.

FLASH!

And then, yet another camera flash flickered. The Vanguards weren't only butchering the Goblins but also documenting it all. Their crime of joining hands with the Dark Lord and opposing wizardkind, a sin that the entire Goblin community will have to pay for soon.

"We surrender!" The Goblins tried to surrender once their numbers were reduced to merely twenty-five.

BOOM!

The battle didn't stop. Dudley's orders were to kill. Annihilation of Goblins since the ones participating in the attack were mostly from the British branch of Gringotts.

However, the truth was, it only took two hundred Vanguards to obliterate the Goblins. The rest were divided into teams that guarded each floor. Finally, two hundred were sent to the Department of Mysteries.

They weren't there to help. Their job was to fulfill the contract given to them.
