Chapter 240: Guidance
Kamille swallowed hard, gently placing Fa Yuiry on his bed and carefully tucking her in.
He looked around nervously, and in the end, all he could find was a penknife from his work desk. Clutching it tightly, he began to walk slowly toward the stairs.
Who could possibly be ringing the doorbell at a time like this?
Kamille stepped down the stairs one at a time, only to find that the front door hadn't been opened at all.
He approached the door and looked through the peephole. After confirming that no one was outside, he suddenly flung the door open.
There was no one there—only a box left by the door.
Frowning, Kamille picked up the box and turned it around to examine it.
It bore the logo of a jewelry store.
And that store was the very one Beltorchika had gone to!
Kamille's slender Adam's apple bobbed. He swiftly slit open the box with the penknife and retrieved its contents.
It was a necklace—the same one Beltorchika had purchased.
Kamille cautiously looked around in all directions.
He had originally assumed Beltorchika had been captured because of something she'd done at the jewelry store. But now, that didn't seem to be the case.
Otherwise, this necklace wouldn't have ended up in his hands.
Gripping the necklace tightly, Kamille clenched his teeth and broke into a run.
He dashed to a nearby rideshare car station, got into a vehicle, and started it with his citizen card, heading straight toward the military base.
While driving, he flipped the necklace over and used his fingernail to probe along a hidden seam.
Sure enough, he managed to open a concealed back panel.
Inside was a piece of paper.
Kamille carefully unfolded it, revealing a dynamic image—it was a schematic of the teal-colored Noah, and one of the floodgates was marked in red.
To the right of the image, in a blank space, there was a single line of text:
"If you still want to join AEUG, come here before 1900 tonight."
That was all it said.
But what about Beltorchika? There wasn't a single word about her!
With one hand on the steering wheel, Kamille's thoughts raced.
He more or less understood their intention—if Beltorchika had sacrificed herself, then the least they could do was get someone like Kamille, who was under close watch, out of there.
In other words, AEUG had likely already given up on rescuing Beltorchika.
After all, based on what Fa Yuiry had said, Beltorchika could be executed at any moment!
Kamille raised his hand to sync the car's time with the onboard system.
There was only an hour and a half left until 1900. If he couldn't get Beltorchika out before then—
Gritting his teeth, Kamille spun the steering wheel, turning onto a side road that didn't lead to the military base.
He set the car to cruise control, braced himself, and leapt out onto the roadside grass!
The ground looked soft, but the moment he hit it after jumping from a moving vehicle, his right arm—used to cushion the fall—flared with searing pain.
Watching the car continue down the road, Kamille could only pray inwardly that it would serve its purpose—to buy him some time.
His citizen card was still plugged into that vehicle. With any luck, once the Titans noticed, they'd follow the car instead.
Regardless of the outcome, Kamille had no intention of staying on this colony satellite. His citizen card was the least of his concerns now.
With that thought in mind, he pushed through the pain in his right arm and the back of his head, relying on his legs to carry him through the woods toward the side entrance of the Titans' base.
…
"You're really stubborn, aren't you, Miss Beltorchika of AEUG?"
Facing him was Jamaica, and Beltorchika bit her lip furiously but remained silent.
Her beautiful face was already bruised in several places, and just like Kamille, her head was wrapped in bandages.
"If you're still hoping AEUG will come rescue you, forget it. They've already abandoned you. Even so, you're still willing to keep their secrets?"
Jamaica gazed at the resilient woman before him, irritation rising within.
He didn't care about the AEUG members already exposed. What he really wanted to know was how many AEUG spies still remained hidden among the Titans.
After all, he had personally selected Beltorchika from the military academy, and after her, he'd recruited quite a few soldiers from space-born populations.
If Beltorchika was a spy planted by AEUG, then the likelihood of others being the same wasn't low.
And if that were true, then had he—Jamaica—misjudged all those people?
Impossible. It had to be that AEUG had anticipated his recruitment methods and set a trap from the very beginning.
"…Forget it. Leave her alone for now. Take her back to the holding cell. We have more important things to do tonight."
Like initiating an internal investigation across the military ranks.
It was far too coincidental that something like this had happened right as General Bask's plan was about to be set in motion.
Beltorchika was violently yanked to her feet and dragged out the door.
They were currently in the command building, and she was to be transferred to another building.
There weren't many people escorting her. After all, this was a colony under Titan control for many years. The very presence of spies had already pushed AEUG to their limits—there was no way they could have an armed force hidden here.
So the escort consisted of just one Jeep.
And Kamille saw all of this unfold before his eyes.
That's right—Kamille had already snuck into this heavily guarded military base.
Not long ago, the Titans had nearly captured him. And yet, when the guards saw him, they showed no sign of aggression. Instead, they let him pass just as they used to.
Seeing the two sentries dressed in standard Federal uniforms, Kamille found himself momentarily confused.
Still, he was inside—and just in time to witness Beltorchika being loaded into the Jeep.
Even in the night, when the streetlights hit her, her golden hair lit up like a beacon, drawing Kamille's gaze immediately.
"Damn it… What should I do?"
Kamille grit his teeth, staring at the three Titans soldiers escorting her.
All of them were armed.
Truthfully, despite appearances, Kamille was confident he could take down a regular soldier in hand-to-hand combat.
But bare hands versus guns? That was an insurmountable gap.
And Kamille didn't know how to use a gun.
If only his prototype mobile suit were here right now!
That was the first thing that came to Kamille's mind—something more powerful than a firearm.
Wait—MS…
Kamille slowly turned his head toward a nearby building.
It was the building where his father worked.
And it was where the Gundam his father had designed was being kept.
