[Ovelia's POV]
Gale released me from his hug, and I wiped the remaining tears from my cheeks with the back of my hand.
Before I could form another word, two strong, familiar hands settled firmly on my waist. I let out a small, surprised yelp as I was pulled backward, away from Gale's human-sized lap.
"Now you should keep your distance from my wife," Ace's voice rumbled from behind me, low and thick with a possessiveness that sent a shiver down my spine.
I realized I was now settled securely in his lap, my back pressed against the solid wall of his chest. The warmth of him seeped through my dress, and my heart raced.
Then, he lowered his head and deliberately sniffed my hair, right near my neck.
"Ace?" I asked, my voice trembling. I could feel my face burning.
"Now his scent is all over you," he muttered, his arms wrapping around me in a tight, almost desperate embrace. He rested his chin on my shoulder, his silver eyes fixed on Gale in a silent, challenging glare.
