Several kilometers above Alamos Town...
A Garchomp cut through the white clouds with its tail.
Cynthia stood on Garchomp's back, dressed in black, her brows furrowed in silence.
"Cynthia, have you reached Alamos Town?" Professor Carolina's voice came through the Bluetooth headset.
"I'm directly above Alamos Town now."
Before her eyes was a thick white fog, completely obscuring what lay beyond.
Cynthia frowned and looked at Togekiss flapping its wings, sending out a gust of wind.
The dispersed fog immediately reformed, showing no signs of dissipating.
"This fog is extremely unusual. Even Togekiss's Defog has no effect."
Cynthia's delicate face darkened as a sense of crisis rose in her heart.
"Alamos Town... seems to have been isolated by this fog..."
On the other end, Carolina rapidly checked data and exclaimed:
"That's due to spacetime disturbances creating a phenomenon called a 'dimensional barrier'—"
Beep beep beep!!
Data flashed across the screen, values rising at alarming speed, warning lights flickering red.
Carolina's eyes widened as a chill ran down her spine. She shouted hoarsely:
"Cynthia, get away from there! The spacetime rift will consume you too!"
The hazy white fog seemed to transform into a man-eating monster, spreading wildly in all directions.
Cynthia commanded Garchomp to retreat while gaining altitude, her gray eyes looking down.
"How could this be..."
Cynthia's voice was hoarse, her blonde hair falling disheveled across her face as a chill ran down her back.
Reflected in those gray eyes was the fog's outer edge - a circular crater spanning thousands of kilometers.
It was as if Alamos Town had been completely erased from the world.
...
Meanwhile.
In some annihilated parallel world.
Time and Space collided here, in a void of darkness where only two intersecting figures remained.
BOOM!!
A battle of deities.
With each collision, ripples that could shatter everything rose in the darkness.
The Unown inhabiting this place were touched by the ripples, their black bodies turning to dust without a sound.
Yet more Unown were born from the void with each clash of the two terrifying figures.
BOOM!!
When the two titans collided, Space trembled and Time seemed to stop.
One was silver-gray with purple-black patterns, resembling a bipedal dinosaur, with circular disks embedded with bright pearls on its shoulders—
The Spatial Dragon, Palkia.
The other was cobalt blue with metallic edges, like a sauropod dragon, a sparkling diamond embedded in the metal groove on its chest—
The Temporal Dragon, Dialga.
The great battle erupted.
Palkia swung its arm, unleashing Spacial Rend that shattered Space itself.
Dialga reared its head and roared, the ripples of Roar of Time crashing into Palkia as countless Unown flew from the wounds.
Palkia gave Dialga a deep look.
With a wave, it tore open Space and fled toward a certain world—the direction of Alamos Town.
Dialga stubbornly gave chase, angrily taking flight after it into the spatial rift.
The entire world fell silent.
Only the Unown inhabiting this place trembled in fear.
If Natsume were here, he'd surely translate for them:
"Stop fighting already! Take it to the Reverse World if you must fight! o(╥﹏╥)o"
...
Pokémon Center, Alamos Town
Natsume awoke from his nightmare.
The first thing he saw was a long, crimson tongue.
"Gengar(⊙⊙)" Gengar froze mid-Lick upon seeing Natsume's open eyes.
After a moment's thought, it licked him anyway, then snickered mischievously.
Remembering fragments of his dream, Natsume reached out to pat Gengar's head.
"Next time, just take the Moomoo Milk without paying."
"Gengar?"
"You like soda too, right? Oh wait—you can just grab it from vending machines."
Feeling the weight of the Poké Balls at his waist, Natsume couldn't help but sigh nostalgically.
They're back. Everything's back!
Except for 'Moe-Moe!'...
Damn Diamond & Pearl remakes! Who approved that hideous design for my waifu?!
Gritting his teeth, Natsume got up to find Darkrai and discuss their battle strategy.
"Natsume-sensei is awake!" Nurse Joy called out softly.
Ash, the Team Rocket trio, Jasmine, and Yellow hurried into the ward, sighing in relief at the sight of him unharmed.
"Wait, didn't Ash faint with me?" Natsume blinked.
Ash scratched his head. "I had Pikachu wake me up with Thunderbolt!"
Fair enough. Natsume turned to Meowth and the others. "And you guys...?"
"No clue!" The trio shrugged. "Felt like a great nap—super refreshed!"
Darkrai's Bad Dreams hadn't been malicious.
Plus, with the trio's exceptional physiques, waking up quickly made sense.
Natsume nodded. "So, what's the situation now?"
"You'll understand once you step outside..." Nurse Joy said.
As Natsume's group left the ward, they saw temporary shelters everywhere.
Trainers and Pokémon lay unconscious on makeshift beds.
A Bidoof floated past leisurely, seemingly in a soul-out-of-body state.
"Am I hallucinating?" Natsume rubbed his eyes.
"That's no hallucination," Nurse Joy fretted. "It's Darkrai's Bad Dreams—people are trapped in nightmares, experiencing soul projection or even body swaps..."
Natsume stiffened, suddenly recalling the movie's plot. "So Darkrai's behind this!"
In the crowd, a Lickilicky waved its stubby arms and shouted:
"I'll defeat Darkrai and teach it a lesson!"
"L-Lickilicky is talking?!" Team Rocket gasped.
"If I'm not mistaken," Nurse Joy facepalmed, "that's Baron Alberto..."
"Due to Darkrai, their body-swap dream became reality."
Natsume: "Pfft!"
Most people dream of swapping with a beauty, but this guy gets stuck as a Lickilicky.
In a way, that's true bonding...
"..." Nurse Joy covered her mouth. "I shouldn't laugh, but... cough!"
Team Rocket Trio: "o(≧▽≦)ツ"*
"What's so funny?!" 'Lickilicky' planted its hands on its hips indignantly.
"Not funny," Jessie giggled, then burst into laughter. "Hilarious!!"
"Who turns into a Lickilicky?!" James wheezed.
"It talks, meow!" Meowth wiped away tears.
'Lickilicky' huffed. "It's BARON ALBERTO!"
Natsume: "Got it, Baron Lickilicky."
"ALBERTO."
"Sure, Lickilicky."
The baron's face turned red. After debating whether to lick Natsume-sensei, he stormed off instead.
"I'll defeat Darkrai and fix everything!"
After the interlude, Natsume turned to Jasmine, who was coughing into her sleeve.
"Where's Mr. Wallace?"
"Surveying the mist at the town's edge," she wheezed.
Natsume nodded. "I'll head there soon."
Yellow whispered: "Natsume-sensei... I don't think Darkrai is evil..."
"You're right."
He met her gaze. "But the real disaster requires your power to resolve."
Yellow stiffened—then took a deep breath, tying her hair into a ponytail with her bandana.
"I'll do my best!"
Jasmine hesitated. "What about Baron Lickilicky...?"
"Let him go." Natsume smirked. "If he actually beats Darkrai, it'll make for a great story."
Deciding to regroup with Wallace first, Natsume turned to Ash.
"Ash, you mentioned Iris earlier?"
Ash nodded.
"Good. Your mission is to reach the Space-Time Tower with her."
Natsume gripped Ash's shoulders. "Find the song 'Oración' and play it from the tower!"
"Oración?" Ash looked blank.
Nurse Joy frowned. "An ancient melody said to calm hatred... But it's been lost for centuries."
Natsume: "It's in the town library."
Everyone: "HUH!?"
Footsteps approached. A researcher ran over, panting.
"I-I'm Tonio! Please believe me!"
"Darkrai means no harm! Stop this!"
The group stared at him like he'd announced the sky was blue.
Tonio recoiled. "You... don't believe me?"
"We do."
Natsume clapped Tonio's shoulder. "That's why you're taking Ash to save the world."
Tonio blinked. "Oh."
As Ash followed, he asked:
"Why can the tower play music?"
"It's the world's largest instrument."
"And Oración?"
"A melody on a disc. In the library."
"Oh, Natsume-sensei already said that."
Tonio's soul left his body.
My hard-earned research... Natsume-sensei knew all along?
...
Alamos Town Bridge
The fog clung to the structure. Some tried crossing, only to loop back inexplicably.
"I ran straight ahead!"
"Where I'm from, we call this 'ghost walls'."
"No signals! Electronics are dead!"
Wallace stood at the edge, his white cape fluttering as he studied the mist. Even he was powerless against it.
"Local scholars call it a 'dimensional barrier'," his assistant whispered, trembling. "They say... something worse is coming."
"Solidad."
"Y-Yes?"
"Let's get you inside." Wallace draped his cape around her.
She shuddered, staring at her soaked skirt, futilely wiping her heels.
Some townsfolk remained hopeful—with Natsume-sensei and Wallace here, surely they'd prevail. Others had broken, crushed by the endless fog and nightmares.
Only half a day had passed. Wallace dreaded what terror night would bring.
He checked his phone, then steeled himself.
Footsteps approached. Wallace turned with a wry smile.
"Natsume-sensei. The finals will be postponed."
"Still hung up on your Wallace Cup?" Natsume snorted.
Wallace blinked, then shook his head.
"Do you have any space-related abilities?" Natsume asked. "Something that could temporarily break through Palkia's barrier."
"No." Wallace's eyes widened. "Palkia?"
"You've heard of it."
"Indeed... but how would you know about Palkia's involvement?"
"I'm also a mythology and history scholar." Natsume wasn't lying.
Wallace nodded slightly, seeming to understand something. "So Darkrai's warning... was about Palkia?"
"Not just Palkia." Natsume shrugged. "Also Dialga, here to challenge it."
Wallace: ???
"They're going to fight." Natsume stomped his foot. "Right here. In Alamos Town."
Wallace: ???!
After a long pause, Wallace spoke hoarsely: "You... seem to possess abilities like Caitlin's Future Sight..."
(Not Future Sight. I've read the script.)
Natsume checked his phone—no signal. No calling Red for backup. He sighed.
"Anyway." He pocketed his phone. "You'll need to team up with Darkrai if we want to survive this battle."
Wallace had no objections, crossing his arms hesitantly. "And you...?"
"You wouldn't send an injured man to the front lines, would you?"
"..."
"I just got hit by Darkrai's Dark Void. My head's still ringing—want to listen?"
"..." Wallace sighed. "There's something I must tell you."
A sudden tension gripped Natsume's chest. He nodded slightly.
"Prolonged exposure to the mist... causes partial memory loss."
Wallace smiled bitterly. "I tried dialing a number earlier, but... I couldn't remember it."
"Your girlfriend's?"
"...Yes."
"Then you didn't memorize it well enough. Should kneel on your keybo—"
Natsume's mouth opened, then froze.
His own memory of Moe-Moe!'s phone number was nothing but static.
It was as if... due to the spatial rift, all of Alamos Town had been locked in a black box.
An icy chill crawled up Natsume's spine, spreading through his entire body.
"We need to resolve this quickly."
Wallace nodded solemnly. "Agreed."
BOOM!!!
A violent tremor shook the ground behind them.
Screams. Cries. Explosions.
They turned in unison.
Above Alamos Town, the sky twisted—a swirling rift in space-time.
Dialga and Palkia.
They had arrived.
...
Hundreds of meters above Alamos Town...
Cynthia stood atop Garchomp, her black coat fluttering in the wind, silent.
"Garchomp?" Garchomp glanced back at its trainer.
Cynthia brushed aside her wind-tossed blonde hair, a faint smile appearing.
"We're going straight into the spatial rift."
"Garchomp!?!" Garchomp's eyes bulged in terror.
Cynthia didn't explain.
For a fleeting moment, sorrow flickered in her deep gray eyes—
Then vanished, replaced by the imperious gaze of a golden-haired queen. She crossed her arms, her coat snapping dramatically.
Alamos Town... There's a reason I must go.
Her eyes gleamed like a beautiful yet ferocious lioness, blonde hair whipping in the wind.
No matter how time twists... or space shatters...
In her hand gleamed two radiant jewels—a pearl and a diamond.
With the [Spear Key], she might forge a bridge to the dimensional rift.
Even if... failure was possible.
'My love for you only grows stronger...'
A breathtaking smile curved her lips.
"And mine never wavers."
"Garchomp!" Cynthia commanded. "Dragon Rush!"
"Garchomp!!"
Garchomp became a crimson meteor, streaking toward the dense fog.
The [Spear Key] blazed with brilliant blue light—a key unlocking the bridge.
The spatial rift tore open.
