Carlos pushed open the car door, and his eyes were immediately drawn to the figure ahead, almost instinctively quickening his pace towards the woman.
The woman wore a black helmet, covering most of her face. It wasn't until the footsteps behind her grew nearer that she slowly turned around to look at Carlos.
Their eyes met, and Carlos's pupils shrank slightly as he blurted out, "You?"
"Sir, are you also here to pick up a child?"
The woman was the first to speak, her voice deliberately hoarse. Carlos's heart skipped a beat; this was not Emily Parker's voice.
But the person's figure in front of him, even the way she turned, was so similar to the Emily Parker he remembered...
"Sorry, I mistook you for someone else."
He was about to ask more when his phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated frantically, with "Rainny White" flashing on the screen, already the fifth missed call.
