Chapter 488 - Chapter 488: The Performance Begins

[Quentin Beck masterfully controlled his holographic illusion as he flew directly toward Nick Fury's position. "Director! I came here as soon as I received your emergency alert! I've conducted a complete aerial patrol of the entire city perimeter, but I haven't detected any anomalous activity!"]

[Director Nick Fury's expression darkened as he heard this report, and he cursed silently to himself: "Damn it! Something's not adding up here!"]

[At that precise moment, Agent Hill behind him discovered something deeply troubling in her sensor readings, "Nick! The electromagnetic pulse signature is intensifying rapidly!"]

["I'll conduct another comprehensive sweep of the area!" After delivering this reassurance, the disguised Mysterio immediately took flight and disappeared from their sight.]

["Report back immediately if you discover anything suspicious! The safety of this entire operation depends on your reconnaissance!" Nick Fury watched Mysterio's retreating form with complete trust. At this crucial moment, he still had absolute faith in the supposed hero's abilities and intentions.]

[Meanwhile, in a secure corridor hidden from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s observation, the real Quentin Beck walked purposefully with several advanced surveillance drones following closely behind him. His voice carried mock concern as he spoke, "If my tactical assessment is accurate, we can only hope and pray for divine intervention! Fury and his entire team are going to need all the help they can get! May God have mercy on all of us!"]

[He then severed his communication link with Nick Fury and immediately allowed his true malicious nature to surface, his expression shifting to one of cold calculation, "Perfect! No Avengers interference to complicate our operation! We can proceed with Phase One! William! Initialize the drone deployment sequence!"]

[Inside a nondescript surveillance van strategically parked along the roadside, William's fingers flew across his control interface, "Copy that, boss! Drone swarm is about to breach the atmosphere with full combat loadout!"]

[High above in Earth's lower orbital zone, a concealed defense satellite suddenly opened its cargo bay doors, and hundreds of densely packed combat drones began their rapid descent toward the planet's surface like a mechanical meteor shower.]

["Excellent work! Status report, Janice?"]

["Still making final adjustments to the ceremonial cape!" Janice continued meticulously ironing every fold out of the elaborate costume with obsessive attention to detail.]

["Not even the slightest wrinkle can remain visible. I'm scheduled to shake hands with Her Majesty the Queen in just a few hours! Gutman, what's your status?"]

[Gutman maintained his position behind the steering wheel of the tour bus, "All targets are secured and ready for execution!"]

["Outstanding! Proceed with Phase Two! Victoria, you're up!"]

[As Beck's coordinated orders were systematically issued, Victoria, who had been concealed in an underground parking garage, began dramatically amplifying the intensity of her electromagnetic pulse generation equipment.]

[Agent Hill's monitoring equipment immediately registered the massive surge in electromagnetic activity, "Whatever this phenomenon is, its power output has increased by a factor of one hundred compared to our previous readings!"]

["E.D.I.T.H.?"]

[The advanced AI system immediately responded to his command with mechanical precision: "Yes, Quentin!"]

["Display all designated elimination targets! The moment I give the execution order when our performance begins, you will neutralize every target without hesitation!" The holographic display immediately populated with detailed portraits: Nick Fury and Agent Hill appeared alongside clear images of MJ, Ned Leeds, and Betty Brant.]

["Command received and confirmed!"]

["Perfect! Ladies and gentlemen, the show has officially begun! Time to save the world!"]

Tony Stark couldn't suppress a derisive sneer, "This delusional psychopath actually believes he's going to shake hands with the Queen of England?"

"Let's see how our Peter exposes this pathetic fraud for what he really is!" Captain America's voice carried intense disgust. He despised this theatrical villain who was systematically insulting everything the term 'superhero' represented.

Just as Tony was about to raise his hand to make another cutting remark, JARVIS suddenly interrupted with urgent concern, "Sir! I strongly recommend you examine this immediately!"

"What is it now?" Tony looked momentarily confused, then gestured to activate his holographic display, revealing a figure surrounded by distinctive green smoke appearing in the sky directly above New York City.

"Isn't that the exact same illusion technique used by that fraudulent liar?" Banner stared in bewilderment at the footage JARVIS was projecting. The figure in the image was unmistakably another Mysterio making his way toward Stark Tower.

"What the hell is happening here? Did that bastard somehow escape from the detention facility?" James Rhodes straightened in his chair and stared intently at the Mysterio who was heading directly toward Stark Tower with apparent purpose.

"Negative, sir! Quentin Beck remains securely contained in his detention cell!" JARVIS simultaneously displayed footage of the real Quentin Beck lying motionless in his prison cell on a split screen.

Captain America pointed at the approaching Mysterio with obvious confusion written across his face: "Then what's going on here? Who is this individual? Does Quentin Beck have active accomplices we weren't aware of?"

"Your guess is as good as mine! But it's pretty obvious that whoever this is, they're coming directly for us!" Tony narrowed his eyes and watched with growing concern as this new Mysterio landed at the main entrance of Stark Tower.

To understand the current situation, we must return to recent events. After the genuine Mysterio had been confronted and blocked on the street, passing citizens had gradually begun to recognize his distinctive appearance. Because he hadn't made any attempt to conceal his face, his strong resemblance to Quentin Beck had caused him to be mistaken for the notorious deceiver featured on the sky dome broadcasts.

The intimidating Black man who had initially confronted him had intended to teach him a physical lesson, but Mysterio had no desire to engage in conflict with innocent civilians. Therefore, he had been forced to take flight amid the startled exclamations of the growing crowd, no longer concerned about whether his actions would make tomorrow's newspaper headlines, and had flown directly toward Stark Tower to seek answers.

This dramatic aerial approach was precisely what had triggered JARVIS's advanced detection systems.

[MJ and Ned made their way toward the front section of the double-decker tour bus, "I'm getting a really bad feeling about this whole situation. Something terrible is about to happen!"]

[Ned smiled reassuringly, attempting to lighten the mood, "Well, congratulations! You're now officially a 'Spider-Friend'!"]

[MJ shot him a peculiar, questioning look.]

[Ned quickly explained his terminology, "'Spider-Man's friend'! Just remember the most important rule – no matter what happens, stay calm and don't panic!"]

[Suddenly, they both heard the ominous sound of thunder and lightning crackling through the air, and they immediately turned their heads toward the sound in unison.]

[MJ's instincts detected the unmistakable scent of imminent danger: "Ned! This situation is getting really bad, really fast!"]

[But Ned still hadn't fully grasped the severity of their predicament, "Relax! It's all just fake special effects! There's absolutely nothing to worry about!"]

[Gutman brought the tour bus to a complete stop directly on Tower Bridge, speaking into his concealed communication device, "All targets have been successfully positioned in the designated kill zone!"]

["Excellent work, Gutman! Maintain position!"]

[On the other side of London, Nick Fury suddenly received an unexpected phone call from Happy Hogan, "This is Fury. What's the situation?"]

["Director, this is Happy! Happy Hogan calling!"]

["I know who you are! Why are you contacting me on a secure line?"]

["I was going through Mr. Stark's personal belongings at his Malibu residence and discovered a surfboard that you apparently left behind during one of your visits!"]

[Nick Fury looked momentarily perplexed, "What are you talking about?"]

[Happy completely ignored his confusion and continued with his coded message: "Everyone keeps saying that Nick Fury doesn't know how to surf. But I always tell them 'Never judge a book by its cover'!"]

[Director Fury suddenly understood the hidden meaning behind Happy's seemingly nonsensical words and responded appropriately, "That's not my surfboard! Don't contact me again!" He then exchanged a meaningful glance with Agent Hill.]

["Perfect! Fury received my signal loud and clear! Your friends are currently trapped on Tower Bridge!" Happy quickly ran over to where 3rd Gen Spider-Man was putting the finishing touches on his new battle suit.]

["Your buddies might call it 'London Bridge', but I know exactly what you mean! I'm en route to extract them right now! They're directly ahead of our current position, correct?"]

["Yeah! Right in front of us!"]

[Happy glanced over at the sophisticated fabrication workbench, "How's the suit modification coming along?"]

["Almost finished! Just a few more calibrations!"]

["Good to hear!"]

["Hey! One more thing!" 3rd Gen Spider-Man reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out a delicate black dahlia necklace, "If anything happens to me during this mission, can you make sure MJ gets this?"]

[Happy reached out to accept the precious gift, but his expression remained determinedly optimistic, "You're going to make it back safely, and then you can give it to her yourself! Okay? I have complete faith in your abilities! Now tell me your tactical plan!"]

["Beck's entire operation is based on sophisticated illusion technology, right? All I have to do is penetrate the holographic barrier, get inside the illusion's core system, shut down the projection equipment, locate Beck's actual position – he's just an ordinary human being without his tech – and then I can recover E.D.I.T.H.!"]

[Happy felt obligated to inject a dose of reality into the young hero's confidence, "Right! But let's not forget that you got hit by a freight train during your last encounter with this guy!"]

["Yes, but this time is completely different! How should I explain this? Um... I've developed a kind of sixth sense about his tactics!"]

[Happy nodded repeatedly, trying to understand, "'Peter's getting a tingle', is that what you're trying to say? But the problem is that your spider-sense isn't functioning properly right now, is it?"]
