Chapter 498 - Chapter 498: Skrulls

"Damn it!!!" The genuine Mysterio slammed his fist down on the conference table in front of him with such force that it completely collapsed into splinters, then began walking with murderous intent toward Quentin Beck's detention cell.

Captain America witnessed this explosive reaction and quickly stepped forward to physically restrain him, "Hey! Beck! Hey! You need to calm down! He can't survive another beating from you! You already beat him badly enough to cause serious internal bleeding."

The genuine Mysterio looked directly at Captain America, took several deep, calming breaths to control his overwhelming anger, then stared with cold fury through Captain America toward Quentin Beck's location.

"This damned piece of garbage is still causing trouble for Peter even after his death and actively trying to destroy my reputation throughout the multiverse!"

"He will face appropriate punishment for his crimes! You can be absolutely certain of that, my friend!" Tony approached and placed a reassuring hand on Mysterio's shoulder.

"Yeah! It's just that I get incredibly angry when I think about my name and reputation being systematically tarnished across multiple dimensions! If my former teammates and friends knew about this fraudulent impostor, they would definitely want to beat that pathological liar to death themselves!"

The genuine Mysterio released a frustrated sigh and turned to examine the table he had destroyed in his rage. "I'm sorry! I couldn't control myself! How much does this table cost? I'll pay you back as soon as I have some money!"

Agent Hill shook her head dismissively. "Don't worry about it! People get emotional sometimes! Just try not to do it again in the future!"

Mysterio responded with genuine gratitude: "Thank you for understanding!"

Tony glanced at his watch and made a decision, "I don't think I'll have any pressing matters to attend to today. Come on, buddy! I'll arrange proper accommodations for you! You can live in the room right next to Banner's laboratory!"

The genuine Mysterio naturally had no objections to this generous offer, "That sounds perfect! Thank you so much for all your help!"

Tony glanced meaningfully at Director Nick Fury and said, "I'll cover all of Beck's living expenses personally. You go ahead and handle his legal identity documentation!"

Nick Fury rolled his eyes with obvious annoyance, "Fine! But you better not cause any additional complications for me!"

He was referring to Tony's obvious fascination with discovering what interdimensional travel actually felt like, and his clear desire to find a way to replicate the experience. Fury was also concerned about Tony's growing curiosity regarding why the story fabricated by the fraudulent Quentin Beck was so remarkably similar to the genuine Mysterio's actual experiences. Was this really such an incredible coincidence?

Or was it possible that because of this fictional story, the universe containing Mysterio and his teammates had developed according to that narrative framework?

Tony was absolutely thrilled by the mysterious secrets of the multiverse and determined to investigate further.

[Agent Hill and Director Nick Fury were driving through London in their official vehicle, when suddenly Hill's human appearance began to shift and change, transforming into a green-skinned alien with distinctively large pointed ears.]

["You absolutely must tell him the complete truth!"]

[Talos also reverted to his original Skrull appearance after hearing his wife's insistence. He glanced at her with obvious reluctance and said, "Everything worked out fine in the end! We successfully handled that dangerous situation! We made significant contributions to the mission!"]

[Soren looked at her husband with clear dissatisfaction: "Talos!"]

[Talos felt genuinely wronged by her criticism, "Please! How could I possibly have known that the entire operation was an elaborate fake! They executed their deception so perfectly that it was completely indistinguishable from genuine reality!"]

["That acting performance! Those holographic illusions! Those convincing costumes! It was all truly amazing! I don't even know where to put my shape-shifting face after being so thoroughly fooled!"]

[Talos continued complaining about their situation, but was forced to give in under his wife's stern gaze, "Alright, alright!"]

[He reluctantly retrieved his cell phone and contacted the real Nick Fury, "Hi there! Hello! Is your vacation mission proceeding smoothly? We successfully delivered the E.D.I.T.H. glasses to young Parker! About a week ago, exactly as you instructed! The scene was very touching and emotional! Very moving, and it genuinely brought tears to my eyes!"]

["Talos!" Soren signaled him firmly to stop discussing irrelevant details and focus on the important matter at hand.]

["Uh... and then shortly after that mission, everything went completely out of control! You absolutely have to return to Earth immediately! Everyone keeps asking me where all the Avengers have disappeared to! I have no idea how to answer their questions! Fortunately, Spider-Man managed to achieve victory!"]

[The real Director Nick Fury was reclining comfortably on a beach lounge chair, with brilliant blue sky and white clouds above, the crystal-clear azure ocean and pristine sandy beach spread out before him, and a refreshing coconut drink positioned within easy reach. He listened silently to the entire report, then hung up the call with a resigned sigh and slowly stood up.]

[He stretched his muscles leisurely, and the holographic tropical projection in front of him immediately disappeared, revealing the original metallic wall underneath. He left the recreation room while walking barefoot, and numerous Skrulls wearing official uniforms passed by him in the corridors.]

[He clapped his hands to get their attention, "Everyone, back to work stations!"]

[Then he continued walking at a relaxed pace, "Seriously, who took my shoes?"]

[The camera slowly pulls back to reveal the true location of his position. It becomes clear that he has been stationed in outer space all along, and multiple advanced warships are constantly launching from the massive space station in front of him.]

Tony observed this shocking revelation with a deeply serious expression, "JARVIS, help me contact Fury immediately! There are aliens living on Earth? And he never bothered to inform me about this!"

"You're referring to..." Banner squinted thoughtfully at the two green-skinned faces displayed on the sky curtain.

"Exactly! I'm seriously wondering whether the individual we've been interacting with was actually the real Nick Fury, and how he could possibly prove his authentic identity to us?" Tony's expression grew increasingly grave. This shape-shifting ability represented a terrifying security threat.

Director Nick Fury's facial expression changed noticeably. The existence of Skrulls living secretly on Earth had always been classified as top secret information, but now the sky curtain had directly exposed their presence. This represented extremely bad news for his carefully maintained operations.

Talos's expression also shifted with obvious concern. For many years, his people had been hiding on Earth to avoid being hunted to extinction by the militaristic Kree Empire. Now that their presence had been publicly exposed, how would the human population react to them? Would they still be able to continue living safely on Earth?

Simultaneously, the shocking news that Nick Fury and Agent Hill had been disguised aliens spread across the entire world within minutes, and countless government officials, superheroes, and celebrities from the upper echelons of society felt immediate unease and paranoia.

The Skrulls, with their perfect shape-shifting abilities, represented a massive existential threat to any planet with intelligent life, because they could disguise themselves as absolutely anyone. There might even be Skrulls secretly lurking among trusted friends and family members at this very moment.

Members of the World Security Council immediately demanded answers from Nick Fury, insisting that he explain the situation and justify why he had allowed aliens to exist on Earth and even assume his official identity.

What if these aliens harbored malicious intentions? Who could guarantee that these shape-shifters wouldn't disguise themselves as people's wives, husbands, parents, or children?

Could the friends they had made and trusted over the years actually be aliens with hidden ulterior motives?

The ancient wisdom "Those who are not of our race must have different hearts" seemed applicable to any species, especially when dealing with extraterrestrial beings.

Agent Hill looked at Director Nick Fury with obvious helplessness. At this critical moment, there was considerable chaos developing within the S.W.O.R.D. agency. The agents looked at each other with growing suspicion and bewilderment, unsure whether the colleagues they worked alongside every day were actually from Earth.

Nick Fury felt a splitting headache as he observed the continuous stream of incoming phone calls. Even Tony Stark had arrived to personally question him, which made him realize that his situation had become extremely precarious.

He might be forced to choose between protecting Earth and protecting the Skrulls!

Although Director Nick Fury had promised Talos years ago that he would help the Skrull refugees build a new home, there had been minimal progress on this matter over the years because it was an enormously complex undertaking.

Captain Marvel also knew about the existence of the Skrulls, and she immediately rushed back to the S.W.O.R.D. facility to discuss with Nick Fury what course of action they should take now.

The Skrulls probably couldn't remain on Earth much longer, otherwise the human population would inevitably come into conflict with them, and distinguishing between friend and foe would become impossible, creating catastrophic problems.

Senior government officials from major countries around the world immediately convened emergency joint meetings, issuing orders that no nation or military force should initiate warfare without proper authorization, and that all ongoing conflicts, regardless of their scale, must immediately cease fire, or they would face joint international intervention.

This unprecedented resolution was implemented to prevent aliens from potentially attempting to provoke wars that would deplete humanity's resources and military strength. In their strategic assessment, the more intensely humans fought among themselves, the more advantageous it would be for any hostile alien forces!

This reasoning led to the historic resolution, and for a brief time the world became more peaceful than it had ever been before!
