Chapter 508 - Chapter 508: Modifying the Spell Again

[Strange led Spider-Man down a narrow, ancient stone staircase that descended deep into the bowels of the Sanctum. The walls were carved with mystical symbols that seemed to glow faintly in the dim light. They emerged into a vast secret underground chamber that felt both ancient and otherworldly.]

[Spider-Man looked around in awe, his eyes wide as he took in the incredible sight. "What is this place? It feels... alive somehow."]

[Strange gestured broadly as he controlled a massive stone platform on the ground to slowly float upward through mystical energy, his hands weaving complex patterns in the air. "This is a sanctuary built at the intersection of cosmic energy flows that span across dimensions! We weren't the first to discover it - some of these walls have stood here for thousands of years, predating human civilization!"]

[While constructing an intricate magic circle on the floating stone platform, Strange continued with a touch of humor, "Interestingly enough, they filmed an episode of that old detective show 'Private Eyes' down here back in the 1980s. The producers had no idea they were shooting in one of the most mystically significant locations on Earth!"]

[Spider-Man turned around to face Strange directly, his expression serious and grateful. He pursed his lips nervously and said, "Well! I... thank you so much for doing all this for me! For taking such a huge risk! Sir!"]

[Strange smiled slightly as he carefully poured a small bottle of shimmering liquid into carved channels on the stone altar, the substance glowing as it flowed into the ancient grooves. "You're very welcome, Peter! And seriously, stop calling me 'sir' - we're about to share one of the most dangerous magical experiences possible!"]

[Spider-Man smiled awkwardly, still not entirely comfortable with the informal relationship. "Right! Sorry! Old habits, I guess!"]

[After completing all the mystical preparations, checking each rune and symbol carefully, Strange looked at Spider-Man with complete seriousness. "Are you absolutely ready for this? Once I begin, there's no stopping until it's complete."]

[Spider-Man took a deep, steadying breath and nodded firmly. "Ready! Let's do this!"]

[Strange crossed his arms over his chest in a formal mystical gesture, looked directly at Spider-Man with ceremonial gravity, and said, "It has been an honor knowing you, Spider-Man!"]

[Spider-Man frowned, a chill of realization running down his spine as something felt terribly wrong about Strange's formal farewell, but before he could voice his concerns, Strange began condensing a brilliant, complex magic circle in his hands.]

["Wait! What did you just say? Why did that sound like goodbye?"]

[Strange did not respond to his question, instead focusing entirely on the spell as he pulled out a gleaming golden thread from the intricate magic circle in his hands. "The entire world will forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man! Every single person on Earth, including me!"]

[Spider-Man felt like he'd been hit by a truck, his eyes widening in horror. "Everyone?! Wait, that's not what I wanted! Can't there be at least a few people who remember? My closest friends?"]

["This particular spell cannot be controlled with such precision! It is extremely difficult and incredibly dangerous to modify it while actively casting!" As Strange continued the complex hand movements, a string of brilliant golden mystical text began forming in the air around them, creating a luminous barrier.]

["Will my girlfriend forget everything we've been through together? All our shared experiences, our relationship - will she still even be my girlfriend after this?"]

[As Spider-Man spoke with growing panic, the surrounding golden text began to tremble and flicker unstably, responding to his emotional distress.]

[Strange struggled to maintain the spell's stability while answering, "It's impossible to say for certain. Is she with you because you're Spider-Man, or because of who Peter Parker truly is as a person?"]

["I don't know! I really, desperately hope it's not because of the Spider-Man thing!"]

[Seeing Spider-Man's genuine distress, Strange felt a pang of sympathy. Though clearly frustrated, he still followed Spider-Man's desperate request. He carefully removed the magic circle from his hand and, with a decisive wave, abandoned the original spell entirely. The golden mystical energy spun wildly and crashed to the stone floor at their feet.]

[Strange began casting the spell anew, his movements more deliberate this time. "Everyone will forget you are Spider-Man! Everyone except your girlfriend!"]

[Spider-Man heaved a tremendous sigh of relief, his shoulders sagging. "Thank you so much! That means everything to me!"]

[But then his face suddenly changed as another horrible realization struck him: "Oh my God! What about Ned! I completely forgot about Ned!"]

[Strange paused mid-casting, grabbing a name from the swirling spell energy in the air, and asked in confusion, "What exactly is a 'Ned'?"]

["He's my best friend! My guy in the chair! Ned absolutely must remember! This is incredibly important - he's been with me through everything!"]

[Strange reluctantly discarded this version of the spell as well, his patience wearing thin, and warned sternly: "Peter! You need to stop changing the parameters of the spell! I'm trying to perform incredibly complex magic here!"]

["Okay! It's really final this time! I absolutely promise! But... Aunt May should definitely remember too!"]

["PETER! Stop interrupting the casting process!"]

[With visible frustration, Strange discarded this spell attempt as well, golden energy dissipating around them.]

[Spider-Man explained desperately, "When she first found out I was Spider-Man, it was complete chaos! The shock nearly gave her a heart attack! I don't want to put her through discovering my secret identity all over again! So Aunt May has to remember, right?"]

[Although completely exasperated by now, Strange still tried his best to accommodate Spider-Man's heartfelt request. "Fine! I understand your reasoning!"]

["Thank you so much!" As soon as Spider-Man finished expressing his gratitude, his mind immediately jumped to another crucial person. "Oh! And Happy!"]

["I'm not happy! I'm absolutely furious at this point!" Strange said through gritted teeth, his eyebrow twitching with annoyance.]

[Spider-Man quickly waved his hands in explanation: "NO! Happy is a person's nickname! Harold 'Happy' Hogan! He used to be Tony Stark's personal assistant and bodyguard, and now he's kind of like a father figure to me..."]

[As Spider-Man continued talking and adding more exceptions, the spell became increasingly unstable. The golden mystical text surrounding them began trembling violently, crackling with dangerous energy.]

[Strange desperately tried to maintain control of the increasingly chaotic spell while glaring at Spider-Man with barely contained rage. "WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT UP?!!!"]

[But it was too late - the spell had reached a critical point of instability. The golden magic that had been contained around them suddenly exploded outward in all directions like a mystical bomb. Strange and Spider-Man were both caught by this tremendous force and lifted helplessly into the air, spinning uncontrollably.]

[The ancient stone ground beneath their feet cracked and then completely collapsed, revealing a strange, swirling purple interdimensional space beneath. The structural damage was so severe that even the two mage apprentices working above could feel the entire New York Sanctum shaking violently.]

[Spider-Man, still floating helplessly in the chaotic magical energy, complained with perfect timing: "You know what? Actually, everyone who already knew I was Spider-Man should probably just keep remembering it!"]

"Oh! My God! Peter! This is definitely not good!" Natasha glanced sympathetically at little Peter Parker, who was standing beside Aunt May with his head hanging down in shame, not daring to speak or make eye contact with anyone.

She sighed deeply with concern. This version of Spider-Man was being far too reckless! He had just casually approached a wizard and asked him to use incredibly dangerous magic to essentially brainwash every person on the entire planet.

The most outrageous part was that Strange had actually agreed to such an insane request and had started casting the spell before even properly figuring out exactly who should and shouldn't be affected by the memory modification.

Natasha felt like either she was going completely crazy, or the entire world had lost its collective mind!

Inside the mystical halls of Kamar-Taj, Doctor Strange covered his face with both hands, feeling far too embarrassed and humiliated to face anyone. The shame was overwhelming and inescapable!

Christine Palmer was also visibly uncomfortable and embarrassed. As Strange's girlfriend, this public display of magical incompetence was genuinely socially mortifying!

Wong, sitting calmly in the ancient library surrounded by mystical tomes, shook his head with an expression of resigned disappointment. "I explicitly warned you that this particular spell was extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Now I'm very curious to see exactly how you plan to clean up this interdimensional mess!"

"Wait, does this place look familiar to anyone else?"

"Holy shit! Isn't that the building near my apartment? There's been a secret magician hiding there this whole time?!!"

"I know exactly where that location is! I'm definitely going to check it out later. Maybe I can convince the master to teach me some magic!"

"It's so incredibly cool how he made fire appear out of nothing! I'll never have to worry about not having a lighter for my cigarettes again!"

As the precise location of the New York Sanctum was clearly revealed on the screen, nearby residents immediately recognized the familiar building and began flocking toward it with excited curiosity.

At this moment, the wizard responsible for guarding the New York Sanctum noticed many citizens approaching the building with obvious intent. He immediately cast a protective spell to seal the main entrance, leaving the eager citizens to pound uselessly on the mystically reinforced door.

He quickly instructed the mage apprentices stationed there to absolutely not allow anyone inside under any circumstances, then opened a portal and traveled directly to Kamar-Taj to urgently consult with the Ancient One about this unprecedented security breach.

[As the spell completely lost all control and stability, a violent mystical storm erupted in the confined underground space. The surrounding ancient walls began disappearing one by one, dissolving into interdimensional energy, and cracks in the multiverse itself began forming, allowing other realities to begin invading the location where Spider-Man and Strange were trapped.]

[At this critical moment, there was literally nothing solid beneath their feet except for the single stone platform in the center, which continued floating mysteriously in the interdimensional void.]

["AHHHHHH!!!!" Strange spread his arms wide and roared with tremendous effort and concentration, desperately trying to gather the completely out-of-control spell energy back together. Using every ounce of his mystical training and willpower, he managed to contain the chaotic magic and seal it within a glowing hexagonal crystal prison.]

[As the golden mystical text and energy were finally brought back under his control through sheer force of will, the nightmarish interdimensional space gradually began to fade and disappear. Slowly but surely, they found themselves back in the familiar closed underground chamber, though everything felt somehow different now.]
