Astraea's POV
I wiped at my face quickly, trying to get rid of the tears, even though more kept coming no matter how hard I tried to stop them.
My hands were only halfway solid again, but I could now feel Zephyra's skin beneath my fingers, warm, but barely. I looked up at Veylan, my voice filled with panic and desperation.
"Can you save her?"
He didn't answer right away. Instead, he crouched down beside her and carefully placed his index finger under her nose. I held my breath, a second passed, and then another.
He moved his hand, checking her side where the blood was still seeping slowly from the wound. The sight of it made my stomach twist. If I could go back in time and get to her just a few minutes earlier...
Veylan finally exhaled and looked up at me.
"Like I said, she's still alive, just barely," he said. "And judging by the wound… this was done by another demon, but a venomous one. Possibly, a yellow-eyed or another grey-eyed."
My heart dropped. "Poison?"
