Chapter 56 - The Safe Choice

Astraea's POV

I had never been more excited to see Draven in my life.

The second his aura swept into the house, I jumped up from the couch and practically ran toward the foyer. I'd been waiting for him for the past half hour, counting down the minutes until I could finally unload everything that had been building inside me these past few days.

There he was, tall, tired, and just as darkly dressed as ever, stepping through the front door like some savior. I grinned, actually grinned, as I crossed the room toward him.

"You're back!" I said cheerfully, arms already outstretched in anticipation of what I hoped would be a brief and casual hug. "Finally. You have no idea how bored I've been."

But before I could even touch him, his hand shot out with perfect timing and pressed two fingers squarely against the center of my forehead. The force wasn't enough to push me back physically, but it was firm enough to make me halt mid-step.
