Katya pov

I walked briskly down the hallway, clutching the coffee with both hands so I wouldn't spill it and give him a real reason to start shouting.

The elevator was at the end of the hall, silver doors reflecting my awkward, tiny self back at me. I pressed the button and exhaled, letting my shoulders fall a little.

At least the ride back up would be quiet.

The elevator chimed, and the doors slid open and two people I had never seen in my life stood inside.

An elderly bald man in an expensive dark suit. Sharp eyes. Sharp posture. Someone important. Someone used to being obeyed.

And beside him…

A girl.

No — a woman. Probably mid-twenties. Maybe twenty-four, twenty-five. Dressed in a short, sleek gown that fit her body like it was stitched directly onto her skin. Everything about her screamed confidence. Polished. Elegant. Beautiful in a way that made my stomach twist with a sting I wasn't proud of.
