Daniel's head throbbed as he blinked open his eyes, finding himself still lying on the stiff leather couch in his office. The morning light filtered through the blinds, casting an unforgiving glow across the cluttered desk. He had no idea how long he'd been asleep, but the dryness in his throat told him it had been far too long since he'd had any rest.

"You're alive?" James's voice rang through the office, sharp and teasing. Daniel groaned, pulling the pillow over his face, trying to block out the irritating sound.

"Go away," Daniel muttered, half-heartedly.

James, of course, wasn't about to let him off that easy. He swung the door open wider and walked in, stopping in front of the couch with his usual smirk. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to get out of facing your problems, but that's not really your style, is it?"
