Marlie walked down the hallway, her mind elsewhere, her heart beating too fast.
— Because... he said, looking at her, I'm Asher. Her new boyfriend.
The sentence echoed in his head again, clear, cruel.
She stopped abruptly.
Since when...?
How long had they been together?
Uneasiness tightened in his chest. She continued her walk, disturbed, when a burst of voices attracted her attention. Laughter. Male voices. Coming from a half-open room.
She slowed down, approached quietly.
"That was so funny…" Asher said, visibly amused.
"Yeah," another voice confirmed. "Seriously, Bryan, if you were there, you would have choked on laughter.
"Sorry guys," Bryan replied. I had things to sort out.
— What things? Eiden asked suspiciously.
—Vampire stuff.
Marlie's blood ran cold.
Vampires?!
She put a hand to her mouth to stifle a panicked breath.
- But hey, continued Eiden, it's not because Miria is your girlfriend that you have to eat her, eh...
A silence. Then Asher's voice, low, amused.
— Don't worry. It's already on the menu. And no one can take it from me.
Marlie's heart skipped a beat.
— Oh no...
They were vampires.
And Miria… was their target.
Without thinking further, Marlie turned on her heel and ran away, her breath short, her thoughts racing.
They're going to hurt him.
I have to warn the others.
Right away.
