Chapter 115 - One Day at a Time

Logan's POV

Silence stretches between us.

Noah's words hang in the air like smoke that won't clear. 'So that you wouldn't have to spend the rest of your life with me.'

I blink at him. At his mouth, at his slouched shoulders, at the fingers picking absently at the grass. My own heartbeat pounds in my ears—sharp, painful, sudden.

I don't know what hurts more: hearing him say it or realizing he meant it.

"You're insane," I say, weakly. The words come out hoarse. "Why would you say that? Why would you even say that?"

He shrugs, a small, lazy gesture that doesn't match the weight of what he just admitted. "Because it's the truth."

The truth?

I stare at him. "So you meet your biological father and suddenly your life doesn't matter anymore? You want to die? Just like that? You want to leave our son without his Papa?"
