"Hmm?"
At that moment, Paul suddenly felt a vibration from his hand. Instinctively, he raised his left wrist.
His Mega Badge—secured at the edge of his sleeve—was trembling and glowing faintly, as though resonating with his bond with Garchomp.
Following that instinct, Paul placed his hand over the badge and began to speak:
"Garchomp, Mega Evol—"
"GAAAAAR!!"
Before he could finish, a thunderous roar cut him off.
Garchomp turned its head sharply to face Paul. Its eyes were brimming with unrelenting bloodlust—no trace of gentler emotion could be seen, only the ferocity of a predator.
But Paul understood.
With a small smile, he said, "I see... Then I'll leave it to you."
He lowered his raised hand. The glow on the Mega Badge faded—he had chosen not to activate the Key Stone or respond to the bond.
And yet, a faint smile seemed to flash across Garchomp's lips. The murderous aura it radiated only intensified further. As it rose slowly to its feet, its presence surged to its peak.
"GAAAAARR—!"
With a ground-shaking cry, a burst of white light erupted from Garchomp's body.
Bathed in the light, Garchomp's form grew sturdier and more formidable. Its arms and claws transformed, morphing into two gleaming crimson scythes, gleaming with savage precision.
Mega Garchomp—had entered the battlefield!
Once again, Garchomp had achieved Mega Evolution entirely on its own—through sheer will and power.
"Excellent. Go!" Paul clenched his fist and commanded.
Dragon Dance, Outrage, Dragon Rush, Dragon Claw, and Dragon Tail—five Dragon-type moves surged forth in unison. A strange, draconic figure—massive and absurd—emerged, swirling around Garchomp like a spectral guardian.
"GAAAARR!"
With a furious bellow, the spectral dragon launched itself into the air, hurtling toward Regidrago.
"Re—gi—dra—go!"
Regidrago twisted its massive body, summoning a tremendous surge of life force and unleashing it in the form of a devastating Dragon Energy beam—far more terrifying than before.
A violet cannon of light split the sky and collided directly with the airborne spectral dragon.
The dual blade-like claws of the dragon slashed toward the beam, while its fanged maw opened wide in a greedy bite.
A thunderous "BOOM" echoed through the heavens—this time, the energy cannon was utterly torn apart, reduced to glimmering fragments of scattered light.
As the attack missed its mark, Regidrago suddenly felt a strange sense of danger from the dragon still flying toward it. With a red glow radiating from its body, it activated Dragon Dance, then unleashed Outrage, charging headfirst at the strange dragon with terrifying momentum.
From afar, it looked like a colossal crimson dragon head hurtling through the air to intercept a bizarre skyborne beast.
BOOM!
A deafening crash erupted across the sky, the explosive impact shaking the battlefield. Pokémon who were still mid-battle paused in shock, and even Mew was so startled, it dropped the lollipop it was happily munching on.
"Mew~"
At the Tree of Beginning, Mew stared in dismay at the half-eaten lollipop now lying on the ground.
It looked around quickly—no one seemed to be paying attention. Relieved, it hurriedly picked the lollipop back up and gave it a gentle blow.
With a little burst of psychic power, Mew levitated the candy, cleaned it off thoroughly, and popped it right back into its mouth, munching away with delight.
Then, with a casual flick of its tiny paw, Mew summoned a ripple-like projection in the air before it.
The image shown was the final clash between Garchomp and Regidrago.
The projection moved in slow motion, every detail captured with surreal clarity. That is, until Mew focused its mind and resumed normal playback speed at the moment of impact between the two titanic dragons.
From within the massive explosion's thick smoke, neither the crimson dragon head nor the strange dragon could be seen—both had vanished without a trace.
Only two figures came plummeting from the sky and crashed into the ground below.
Regidrago lay motionless on the ground. Mega Garchomp, its Mega Evolution now fading, was enveloped in a flash of white light and returned to its normal form.
As Mew cheerfully licked its lollipop, it assumed that Garchomp had also lost the ability to battle just like Regidrago. But then—
Garchomp twitched.
With a grit of determination, it began to crawl slowly across the battlefield, dragging its heavy body toward Regidrago.
What kind of willpower and resolve was this?
"Mew~"
Mew, along with Paul and his team, was stunned by Garchomp's unwavering spirit.
"Mew?"
But just as the emotional weight of the moment reached its peak, they watched Garchomp reach Regidrago's side, open its jaws…
…and take a bite out of it.
In an instant, all the admiration and awe evaporated. Everyone's expressions froze in stunned disbelief.
Wait—are you saying you were trying to eat Regidrago this whole time?!
To Garchomp, Regidrago wasn't just another Pokémon—it was like a mythical elixir from a cultivation fantasy, a celestial treasure of untold power. If it could devour and absorb it, there was no doubt: Garchomp would ascend to the strength of an Elite Four-level ace, perhaps even the most powerful in the entire team.
But the problem was… this wasn't just any ordinary Regidrago. And this wasn't just some random patch of wilderness.
Trying to devour the guardian of the Tree of Beginnings—in its own sacred domain—was basically like showing up to someone's home and stewing their guard dog for dinner.
Sure enough, before Paul could even stop Garchomp, a strange and powerful energy pulse radiated out from the Tree of Beginning, surging across the area.
In an instant, everything froze in place.
"Mew~!"
Out of nowhere, a small, floating pink creature appeared—something between a kitten and a fox. With a gentle point of its tiny paw, it effortlessly pushed Garchomp and Regidrago apart.
With a second flick, every Pokémon battling the Legendary Titans was instantly levitated and returned to Paul's side.
"Mew~!"
Clearly satisfied with its handiwork, Mew clapped its little hands in delight, and only then did Paul and his Pokémon regain the ability to move.
The Regi Pokémon—the Legendary Titans—now stood obediently behind Mew, calm and unthreatening.
"The ancestor of all Pokémon… the most mysterious of Mythical Pokémon—Mew."
Paul recognized it at a glance.
Technically, they were on opposing sides. But with this little pink ball of mischief giggling at you, it was hard to feel any real hostility.
Especially when that cute little thing could paralyze you in place with barely a thought.
To put it bluntly, even a Champion-level Trainer would be helpless in front of it.
Still, that didn't mean Paul's team was particularly fond of it.
"Gaaar…"
The most frustrated of them all was Garchomp, who had just had its prize snatched away. The "fat meat" was right in front of its mouth—and then it was gone. Agonizing.
"Mew~!"
Mew didn't seem the least bit bothered by Paul or his Pokémon's expressions. It just giggled, circling them a few times in the air before hovering higher with a nod of satisfaction.
A radiant pulse then emanated from its body, washing over every Pokémon present.
In that instant, all of them were fully restored—no injuries, no fatigue. Even lingering status conditions were completely healed by that mysterious light.
"I didn't expect you to be this strong…"
Even Paul felt like he was dreaming as he faced this powerful and extraordinary Mew.
It was common knowledge—there wasn't just one Mew in the world, and their strength varied greatly across different stories and canons.
Some Mew could go toe-to-toe with Mewtwo without losing ground. Others had single-handedly overwhelmed multiple seasoned trainers without breaking a sweat.
But this Mew—the one now floating before him—was clearly in a league far beyond that.
Paul had a gut feeling: even if all eight current Champions of the World Coronation Series Masters Eight gathered together to face it, they still wouldn't be able to bring it down.
