Chapter 353 - Chapter 353: The Power of Rage – A New Idea

"Direct muscle and cellular enhancement?"

Mewtwo's eyes lit up as he listened.

If strength is like liquid and the body is the container, then only by improving both can one truly grow stronger. If either lags behind, it will hold back the other.

Currently, Mewtwo's growth focuses on its psychic power driving physical evolution. While techniques like Yoga can enhance the body, they are more about unlocking potential—nothing matches the raw speed of directly strengthening muscle fibers and cellular structures.

Besides… who says meditative arts, Yoga, and psychic reinforcement can't be pursued simultaneously?

If this research succeeds, Mewtwo estimates it could accelerate its training progress significantly.

"There's one more aspect—but before I go further, I need to ask you something." Paul said, pausing.

"Go ahead."

"Mewtwo, do you think you're easily angered? Or rather… would you say your true nature is violent? Is your heart savage?"

While the Mewtwo we know from the anime and movies often appears as a wise scholar or a noble warrior, that doesn't mean its core nature isn't brutal.

Don't forget—in the first movie, Mewtwo annihilated everything on New Island the moment it awoke. It created a sea storm that likely claimed many innocent lives, human and Pokémon alike just to issue invitations. It forcefully seized Pokémon, cloned them, and lost all composure upon seeing Mew. All of these are signs of extreme aggression and ruthless instinct.

Even though Paul's intervention diverted Mewtwo from its original path of extremism, that doesn't mean its savage nature vanished.

In Pokémon Origins, the Mewtwo encountered and captured by Red inside Cerulean Cave resembled a feral beast more than a sentient being.

And more importantly, every single official Pokédex entry across generations reinforces this same trait:

"Created by recombining Mew's DNA. It is said to have the most savage heart of any Pokémon."

In contrast, even Giratina is only described as "violent in nature and banished for its behavior." Mewtwo's descriptions, however, consistently use "the most savage" across generations.

This strongly suggests that Mewtwo was never meant to be a "benevolent" Pokémon. Its heart is truly brutal.

"…That's true." Mewtwo said calmly.

"Perhaps due to the genetic recombination, I do become angry quite easily. There's always a destructive impulse simmering inside me, urging me to obliterate everything."

"I've managed to suppress it only because I'm aware that rage and violence cloud rationality. So I've always relied on my psychic power and reason to keep that part of me in check."

Despite the subject matter, Mewtwo's expression was surprisingly serene.

Most Pokémon might eventually lose control, but not Mewtwo. Unless it encountered something truly unhinging, its immense psychic abilities are enough to restrain its primal urges.

"Have you ever considered turning that instinct… into usable power?" Paul asked carefully.

"Using it?" Mewtwo paused.

"Maybe I did, early on. But as my strength grew and I began appreciating the beauty of the world… I lost the desire to destroy it."

"Besides, what truly sets me apart from other Pokémon isn't just my power or talent, it's my intelligence and self-control."

Mewtwo gazed into the distance, a faint smile on its lips.

"Have you ever come across the moves Rage or Raging Fist from Rotom's database?"

"I have." Mewtwo nodded.

"They both harness the emotion of anger to unleash greater power. Other traits and abilities also tap into rage in different ways, it's a kind of emotional weaponization."

Thanks to Rotom's exhaustive database, Mewtwo had reviewed most known move and ability data relating to Pokémon and had a solid grasp of the basics.

"Exactly. Rage is a source of power." Paul said earnestly. "When wielded properly like through moves such as Rage or Raging Fist, it can significantly enhance combat performance."

He remembered that in the anime, during the Whirl Islands arc, Team Rocket had developed a device modeled after Lugia that could amplify a Pokémon's anger, turning it into extraordinary strength.

This proved that rage energy was a very real and potent force.

And if rage was strong, savagery would be even stronger.

But with greater power comes greater difficulty in control.

"It's not that simple." Mewtwo murmured after a pause.

Triggering rage or tapping into savagery to enhance itself wouldn't be hard, but maintaining control would be much more difficult.

If it ever lost rationality… unless another Pokémon stronger than itself intervened to stop it, the destruction that might follow was unthinkable.

"Then let's take it step by step." Paul said. "Start by learning how to consciously trigger the Rage State, but keep the intensity within manageable bounds. Slowly raise your threshold over time."

"You should talk to Garchomp, Ursaluna, and Aggron—they each have awakening modes or bloodline states that also contain traces of rage-based energy."

In fact, it was due to this rage factor that Pokémon in bloodline or awakening modes were immune to confusion, they had passed beyond mere chaotic emotion into something far more focused and volatile.

Unless there was an overwhelming power gap, Pokémon in these states rarely lost control.

What made rage energy even more appealing was that it wasn't bound by genetic limitations like bloodline modes, it could potentially become a universal enhancement.

If successful, Paul could roll it out to his entire team—drastically boosting their overall combat power.

"Understood. Leave it to me."

Grasping Paul's vision, Mewtwo accepted the challenge. Once it completed its current move-enhancement project, it would begin researching the power of rage.

As Paul glanced at his Pokémon training diligently all around him, something inside him stirred.

He pulled out his phone and checked the dimensional travel interface. The space-time energy reserves were full.

In fact, they'd reached capacity back when he absorbed the power of Dialga and Palkia in Hisui, but he'd never used it.

Now, watching his Pokémon push themselves harder than ever, his once-dormant ambitions started to awaken again.

"…Maybe it's time for another trip to the anime world."

The thought struck Paul and the moment it did, it took root and began to grow wildly in his heart.

It wasn't an impulsive idea. Paul had long harbored a deep interest in the anime universe, its warped 25-year timeline, the alternate version of himself, and of course, the roaming Legendaries still waiting to be caught.

Sure, after capturing top-tier Legendaries like Mewtwo and Dialga, most other Legendary Pokémon no longer felt as vital, but a few unique beings still deserved attention.

Paul's philosophy on Legendaries was simple:

"If I can't find you in the main world… I'll hunt you down in the anime world."

And now that he'd made up his mind, the only question left was…

'Which Pokémon should I bring with me?'
