Chapter 22 - Part 21: Confusion and Pleading

(After the unfortunate encounter, I hurried to cover my lower body with the towel, although due to this surprising situation, strangely enough, my member began to rise abnormally, taking up most of the towel).

Excuse me!!!....

(With no time to lose, I went into the bathroom and proceeded to change as quickly as possible).

(...)

(When I came out, the woman was no longer in the hallway and seemed to have locked herself in the bedroom).

(Sigh).

How troublesome...

(I approached the door and knocked lightly).

Excuse me, ma'am, are you in there?

(No answer).

(It seems she doesn't want to answer.)

Look, Ms... Ms. Akiko, this is a misunderstanding...

(I think that was the woman's name, according to what the children told me.)

(Still no answer.)

I know you must be confused, but if you can give me a chance to explain everything that happened, believe me, there's an explanation for everything...

(I could tell there was someone behind the door, but still no sign of it opening)

If you'll allow me, I can give you something to eat while I explain the whole situation to you.

You'll see that it's nothing more than a misunderstanding...

(Despite all my previous words, still no answer...)

(It's useless... Should I give up and try again tomorrow?)

(...)

(Just as I was about to walk away from the door, it opened slightly.)

Huh?

(The woman slowly peeked out from behind the door.)

(With a slightly flushed face, trying unsuccessfully to appear cautious, she looked directly at me...)

I'll believe you...

(Despite those words, the woman was still a little wary of me, but I guess that's progress...)

(Mrs. Akiko leaves the bedroom and we both head to the dining room)

(...)

So that's what's going on...

(The woman stops eating for a moment and touches her head lightly.)

This seems very unreal to me... I mean, who could believe that there are undead people and that they are eating people...

(Mrs. Akiko looked gloomy.)

I know it's hard to believe, but everything I just told you is true.

(the woman looked skeptical)

I see... that would explain why my mother-in-law was biting my husband...

(the woman was silent for a few seconds and shook her head slightly)

By the way... I want to thank you for helping me and my children so much...

(The woman bowed slightly, but after a few moments she looked me straight in the eye.)

Could we please stay here?

(The woman looked at me with a desperate expression on her face.)

Please, I'm begging you. We have nowhere else to go, and on top of everything else that's going on, I doubt we could last a single day out there...

(Probably the most rational option would be to leave them, since food is a resource that is still available, but as time goes by there will be a shortage of food and greater risk in obtaining it... but was it an option to abandon them from the start?)

(After all, I was the one who decided to save them, and if there was a moment to abandon them, it was on the floors below.)

(It would be cruel to abandon them at this point, besides, I risked my life for them...)

They can stay...

(After uttering those words, the woman's expression relaxes...)

Thank you very much...

(The woman seemed to be on the verge of tears...)

(...)

(After clarifying the situation, we decided to talk about other things as a way to lighten the tension of the moment.)

(Thanks to this, I learned that Ms. Akiko was not that old and was 30 years old. In addition, she was an expert in finance but did not practice her profession much because a few months after starting work, she got married. I also learned that she comes from a distinguished upper-middle-class family and that they apparently ran a textile company...)

(The conversation lasted for a couple of hours or maybe a little longer, at which point we decided to postpone it due to the late hour...)

(Ms. Akiko headed toward the bedroom and, before entering, she bowed her head slightly.)

Thank you very much...

(After saying those words, she entered the room.)

(...)

(Alone in the living room, I turned off the lights and lay down on the sofa with a blanket.)

(Minutes passed, but I still couldn't sleep, perhaps because I had slept lightly earlier...)

(I directed my somewhat lost gaze toward the wall, and my eyes once again fell on the cat-shaped clock, which showed that it was 1:12 in the morning...)

(I closed my eyes, but after a few minutes I opened them again)

It's useless, I don't think I'll be able to sleep...

(I put my hands behind my head)

We'd better think about the next course of action and everything that has happened so far...

If we think about the good things that have happened so far, we managed to get rid of the zombie brute on the lower floors, and I was able to make some trades, so today wasn't a complete waste, but on the other hand, I don't know how to feel about the encounter with Nyreus...

Was it real or just a dream?

But regardless of that, I couldn't consider the encounter to be either good or bad. At least not for the moment...

(I let out a heavy sigh)

A lot has happened in just two days...

(I get up and sit on the sofa)

Well, now it's time to think about what we'll do next and about future events...

First of all, it's time to go back and see how Jun and the rest are doing.

(With that in mind, I continue to think about the next steps...)
