Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Preparation

Noid ignored the energy shield and continued to examine other items.

Even though he had the system filter the items, the quantity in the system was still too immense, with every imaginable type of item available. It made him feel like he was back home, Browse an online shopping website.

Fortunately, he found a weapon he liked that also fit his current budget.

Paralysis Gun

Instantly paralyzes targets with a value of 1.0 or less. Slows the functions and movement speed of targets with a value from 1.0 to less than 1.5, with the effect gradually diminishing. No effect on targets with a value of 1.5 or more. Recharge time: 2 hours. Number of shots: 100.

Price: 30 accumulation points

Low-Grade Healing Capsule

Heals injuries on targets with a value of 1.5 or less. The type of healing is determined by the type of injury.

Price: 20 accumulation points

After a long time choosing, these were the two items Noid liked the most. The low-grade healing capsule was a no-brainer; it was an absolute life-saver in an emergency. As for the gun, there were plenty of more powerful guns in the store, but after buying one, he would have to buy the corresponding ammunition. The ammo was cheap, but Noid didn't have many accumulation points.

That's why he chose the paralysis gun. While it was only strong against ordinary people, that's all he needed, as he was worried about the doom cult. Why bother buying a gun to fight the doom? It would be much better to just wear armor and use a gun.

But he was also interested in the upgraded version of the energy shield.

Low-Grade Modified Energy Shield

Creates a defensive layer that envelops the body, completely resisting physical or energy attacks with a value below 3.0. If the value exceeds 3.0, the active time will be automatically reduced. Duration: 1 minute. Cooldown: 6 hours.

Price: 100 accumulation points

Unlike the energy shield, which only protected the front, the modified energy shield provided all-around protection. Activating it on the battlefield was like entering an invincible state. With a defense value as high as 3.0, even the elite doom couldn't touch him.

Unfortunately, it was too expensive. Otherwise, Noid would have given up all the other items to get the modified energy shield.

With the paralysis gun purchased, he held the gun in his hand. Its size wasn't much different from a regular pistol. It just had a colder, more metallic design, with a blue line on the body indicating the power level.

The advantage of this paralysis gun was that it didn't need ammunition. It could absorb radiation to charge its energy on its own, even when stored in the system's inventory.

The first rays of light were now appearing in the sky, and the streets were getting crowded. Noid woke Jack up, and they started a new workday.

...

Sasha and the troops behind her stood at attention. They were not in Rorgh City but another city. Because this was a batch of extremely important supplies being transported from Defense Line No. 1, humanity's most important stronghold, Lysandra City, the process was a bit different. The supplies would be taken to a nearby satellite city for inspection. Only after confirming there were no issues would they proceed to Rorgh City.

A single defense line wasn't a long, continuous defensive wall; a defense line was just a way of speaking. Here, a defense line would be made up of a main city and several satellite cities around it. These satellite cities were not created to protect the main city. On the contrary, the main city, with its strongest population and military, would attract the main firepower of the enemy's attack. The satellite cities would disperse the enemy troops. Because the main city handled the greatest pressure, the pressure on the satellite cities would be significantly reduced.

But this didn't always work. Although humanity won the battle at Karj City, they were forced to retreat because the entire city had been torn with thousands of holes by the doom and could no longer be sustained.

Sasha disliked this kind of escort mission not only because the doom cult would cause trouble, but also because her power would be significantly limited when in a plane.

Although the number of aerial doom was small, they were like buzzing flies, very annoying. It was almost impossible to use a sword to slash at them; she could only use a long-range gun to shoot them.

Sasha was doing her inspection when she suddenly looked into the distance and said dejectedly:

"Again?"

As expected, every time "important supplies" appeared, the doom cult would swarm in like sharks smelling blood. While fighting, they would mutter something about making a sacrifice to the doom lord. Sasha was too lazy to talk to these crazy people. She charged forward and took down the ringleaders one by one.

The troops behind her also rushed forward to suppress them. The crazy people of the doom cult also had weapons, but they were mostly outdated weapons from a decade or more ago. To soldiers wearing armor, it was no different from primitive people attacking with sticks. Many of them were from the doom cult, but they were surrounded by the army.

This made sense. An organization that had to hide like a rat in a sewer would never dare to buy modern weapons in large quantities, because these things were secretly controlled by the military. Once they were exposed, they would immediately be swept away. So, they could only get "antiques" from other sources that were not under military control.

"Surrender, or you will be classified as a fanatic and immediately executed."

The cold voice and the gun pointed directly at their heads made some people stop fighting out of fear. Some tried to flee but were captured.

This raid was just a brief interlude that passed quickly. After the inspection was complete, Sasha and a few other Augmented Humans got on the escort planes.

But they were unaware that from a distant building, a woman was using binoculars to stare at the military area, taking in the entire scene.

When she saw the planes leave, the woman showed a satisfied smile. She put down her binoculars and left.

The woman went down to a large basement. There, a group of people were kneeling, praying in a strange language in front of a tightly chained doom creature. At the feet of the doom were scattered fresh blood, internal organs, heads, and limbs. Disgusting maggots and a strong, foul smell wafted up, as if it had seeped into every brick of this basement, but those people seemed not to notice, only praying more frantically.

The woman went behind a cloaked figure. This person was one of the doom cult's high priests.

"High priest, everything went according to plan."

"Good, you may go."

The woman became excited. She joined the group and began to pray.

The high priest did not turn around. He pulled out a tied-up man. The man was gagged and could only let out desperate groans. He tried to struggle to resist, but the high priest seemed to have strength far beyond that of an ordinary person. He threw the man to the doom.

"Revered doom lord, I offer this meal today."

Along with the sound of flesh and blood being torn apart, the high priest also knelt down. The pool of blood below grew a little larger.
