"Grand Elder Macie! Please, you have to stand."
Sobbing along with the old woman, the much younger disciple reached forward to help her up.
"She was too young… she was too young… how could she die like this…?"
The Grand Elder mumbled incoherently. She had never had children in her life, but she had raised Sadie up since she was a child.
A large part of her hadn't even wanted the little girl to face the challenges of the cultivation world at all. She was just so young and so pure. It felt like thrusting her into such a world would only be doing her the cruelest disservice.
However, the Dark Spirit then chose her. At that point, even Sadie didn't have a choice in this matter. Cultivation was the only way, and the old woman could only do her best to protect her.
Unfortunately, the path of cultivation was too winding, filled with far too many pitfalls and potential traps. Too few could even begin to see it through to the end. But even so…
