Chapter 29 - The Imiate Future

I turned around trying to get a glimpse at 'it', her. That voice wasn't something monotone in my head I couldn't lay a finger on. This was definitely a female voice!

"Amguity has it own charm, how can you dare to spoil it?" She chuckled playfully.

"When does the point you tell me what you want? Either I'm getting gaslit and the Meldier didn't die when we entered the altered memory of that Testchamber or you have some grand goal you want to reveal once we hit a properly fake memory."

"Your memories are truthful enough, I'm aware that my alterations did not blend in perfectly but it was good enough, that Scientist. Jasmine Kühne, I'm aware that you have known her for years. I know that you talked to her back when you had your first simulation in void warfare and that she caught your interest in a way which seemed not to be possible for you then. And I'm aware that the timeline of events is off."

"Truthful enough? What is the point of keeping me locked up in memories I know to be wrong?"

"Behold the contraption of a badly laid out plan, getting EXEcuted perfectly."

The sensation of my body hit me like a truck. My skin was covered by some hard sluggish liquid pooling all around me, I wasn't breathing properly, air was getting forced through me in some techno sorcery way. I fought hard to open up my eyes. Outside I saw Jay, Ibuki Father?

Lynn and Chloe were there also, so was Sina. Everyone except my Father were pointing weapons, Jay at Jasmine, the rest at the nearby Techguards. Turning around frantically.

"Jay, if you try anything hastily none of us will get out of this alive!" Ibuki shouted. He pointed his weapon at Jay then at the Techguard who took one step past my tank towards Jasmine who sat on the ground clutching her head. "If you hurt her any further I fear the techguards won't concern themselves about you being a Commissar all of us will die!"

Lynn and Chloe wordlessly trained their guns at the different Techguards out of my sight. Jay kicked Jasmine further away, with glee his footsteps echoed through the room as he closed in with her again.

"I know they won't do any of that." Jay said looking down at her like she is some piece of thrash.

"What do you mean! They got their weapons trained on us!" Ibuki shouted.

"Jasmine Kuehne I must prove that your life amounted to nothing," Jay took her by the neck and lifted her up. "You go down in history for one thing." He pulled the trigger, his las weapon shot through her head and left the wound behind Cauterized. Dispassionately he threw her away and turned towards the exit. "Youre the first Technocrat in more than four hundred years to willingly kill a citizen in the pursuit of Science. Youre an disgrace to your faction and what they strived to achieve and what they gave to be here. You were worse than a relic of the past and their ambitions for uncharted scientific advancements. They gave it up to live amongst the Directorees and to live amongst them. You were a hypocritic, imbacilic, despicable, arrogant piece of thrash whose superiority complex wasted the lives of thirteen children which are still mourned to till this day and the only one of your text subjects is better off dead! For the following claims of your despicable heinous crimes I put you to death. For the violation against the unity accord, falsifying test results, falsifying test outlines. Appropriating funds outside of their allocated purpose and pure unfiltered murder. Ibuki was so kind and get the Sergeant out of this test tube with his pet and got these people out of here and sealed this place for good, this bitch doesn't deserve a funeral."

After the lengthy monologue Jay opened the Blastdoor and headed outside. Ibuki looked horrified. First the Technocrats began to walk out unprompted, after them their Techguards followed. Then Chloe followed.

My foster father walked past Ibuki. "I'm glad you got to see this son." He began to fiddle with the controls." "Ibuki help me get him out." My consequences drifted away once more. I was getting dragged again, back to the void space I was in just moments ago.

"I hope you agree with me on that one, it couldn't have gone any better!" At the corner of my eyes I saw her leaning in with a mischievous grin but I couldn't recall any features about her face. I tried to force the image back into my mind but it slipped past me like an hazy dream. "Unreliable narration is the way to fool someone when they can't verify any of the details."

"Did you make him dream about something or what do you mean with unreliable narration?"

"The Meldier silly, she was here to watch through your memories and guide you through all of this, or rather fool. The Technocrats tried to make you more aligned with their world views with those dreams. If you ask me they were beyond foolish, their Meldier was an Therapist at that, not someone who can keep you in some false reality for weeks on end. She didn't last a day before you killed her and I ended her for good. Ah and before I forget it. They were using machine image generation to perceive what she was seeing. Most of the things you saw and she created were witnessed by the technocrats and later your friends. Until she died of course."

"And how was it meant to cause Jay to put a bullet… Some energy through her head, everything with the test chamber was out of order way too much. Your narration was flawed. It only would have taken Chloe to speak up. She was there my entire school time and saw my relation with her and how I took her to prom, not only that I shared a dance with Chloe as well and Sina. All of them should have known I was not some youth when we went through those experiments. You only got lucky with this, that was not some grand scheme of yours, only something which happened to work out."

"You only see it through the lens of someone knowing that it was tampered with. Chloe herself will probably not second guess it, believing it was your fractured perception of you when you were younger. Or some mental hiccup or anything, it would be worrisome if she would see inaccuracies in the projections of her friend's mental scape and think some maligne entity was messing around with the details to get some Scientist killed years after she experimented upon you." She leaned in and walked around me while she held her monologue. I tried to focus on her but every detail about her kept evading my consensus.

"Have I not told you to look?" Two hands laid themselves over my eyes. I tried to move my head away, it didn't work. I tried to pull them away with my hands but they went through. "Its your perception silly."

"Can you please stop that, I'm aware that it's futile to try and kill you like ive did with the Meldier but I'm not onboard on anything you're pulling here. I hoped you would get bored and this would pass over but could you tell me what you want or let me get out of it… My own head?"

"If I would say I only want your trust would you believe me?"

"No."

"Figured." The hands which obscured my vision disappeared. "Youre to smart for your own good."

"I think it's only logical not to negotiate with entities which perfectly navigate once memory."

"Its a pity, I hoped you would allow me to help you but let me give you this." She was definitely smaller than me, she leaned in closer and reached her hand out to touch my face, what I saw was a hill burning. Anti air guns shot into the air, bullet holes and scorch marks were all over the place and the defenders died in droves. A tankshot up next to the anti air emplacement, the pintle-mounted machine gun slung around behind it was me. Shooting away into a foe which I was not allowed to see.

I was dragged back until she stood again in front of me. "Well this will do," She said after retracting her hands. "If you ever need me, call my name and I will answer and help you."

"And what would that be?"

"It has two parts and you need to be precise about the words you say."

"Please make it quick."

"Ok, the first part is Marrie."

I looked at her and slowly nodded.

"The next part is Lee."

My hand struck out to strike her. "Im not stupid enough shout suddenly Marry me!" I shouted.

She gave me a thumbs up and everything faded back into black.
