Night time was when the real horrors came out—the long-limbed, fast-moving, silent ones with glowing eyes.

 

During the day, they drove.

 

At night, they rested in fortified cabins Sasha conjured or in the armored van, protected by layers of reinforced steel, enchantments, and Dylan's paranoia.

 

Cloud and Alvaro worked like a well-oiled, aggressively competitive machine—taking shifts scouting the perimeter, hunting undead, and glare-fighting whenever Sasha wasn't looking.

 

Reyes whispered once, "I think if Sasha wasn't here, they would've killed each other."

 

Jones replied, "Correction—they'd kill each other to resurrect each other just to keep fighting."

 

Meanwhile…

 

Dylan and Sasha grew closer.
