Chapter 30 - A Gruesome Change (10)

Akari opens her eyes, seeing Mizuki back in her normal neutral state, standing above her as she lies in the grass. "What the hell happened?" She asked, wondering how she could've gone from fighting a brutal 1V1 fight against Mizuki to fainting without much context. "It's simple, you ran through your revenant pool too quickly. The more malicious intent you exert, the more revenant you use." Akari's eyes then widen as she thinks back to how Satsujin fought them. "(So the secret is compressing your high output of power, thus allowing the user to output greater force without the downside of losing more revenant as you fight.)"

Mizuki looks at Akari, smirking at her disciple. "Looks like you're figuring it out. In the meantime, you should get a feel for coursing the energy from raging malice throughout your body." She then floats into the air, standing up above, watching Akari as she picks herself off the ground.

[Raging Malice Activated!]

As Akari trains within her mindscape, Kenzo watches from the real world and sees the demonic-like energy coursing through her body. A slight feeling of uneasiness shivers down his spine as the energy radiating from Akari gets only more malicious as time passes. "(Jeez, what kind of avatar do you have to make you this bloodlusted?)" Kenzo thinks for a moment, waiting for something to happen. But ultimately decides to leave, and moves through the hallway as he lifts his sleeve to look at his watch.

The watch was a shiny silver and had a mint green gem embedded into it. The time read 2:30 PM, Kenzo chuckled nervously. "(I need to get to his room and try to figure out if his condition has worsened.)" Kenzo then opens a door that says above the door. "Kodak Kawanari"

Kenzo then opens the door to find Fumiko standing over Kodak's hospital bed. Kenzo looked at her, a little surprised. "The doctors said you should be out of your room, Fumiko!" His voice was slightly stern, but that showed how much he truly cared for Kodak's loved ones. He then walked over next to Fumiko. "Have you used any agony on him?"

Fumiko shakes her head in response, and tears fall down her face as she drops to the floor and begins breaking down. "He's not waking up! Any agony I try to utilize is instantly neutralized. His destructive energy wouldn't even let me heal him a little bit. I want him to live. FOR ME!" Fumiko sniffs as tears run down her face even more profusely. Kenzo kneels and hugs her, helping her stand as her tears stain his shirt. "It's okay. I'm here." His words comfort Fumiko as she stands up and sits in a chair beside Kodak's bed. "I had dealt with Kodak being injured before, but not like this. He fluctuates between life and death now and then. My healing doesn't even reach him!" Fumiko sobs even more, fearing the worst for Kodak.

Kenzo then walks over towards Kodak, seeing his nephew's state. He looked at the injuries and then scanned him with his Elder's Sight skill. "(What the hell!? His destructive energy is hurting him!?)" Kenzo's body surges with energy as he places both his hands on Kodak's chest. "(If I don't succeed, then his body won't be able to withstand the backlash!)"

[Skill: Repaired Will Activated Strongly!]

A bright light of white shines through the room. Fumiko watches as the white light fills her with a sensation of warmth, safety, and even peace. The light surrounds Kodak's body like a shield. Kenzo then begins feeling his head getting light. "(No, not yet! Kodak needs more from Repaired Will!)" Kenzo persists even further, using more and more power from his skill as Kodak's body begins glowing purple. "(His body is fighting back against repaired will?!)"

Kuroi and Kiko stand inside Kodak's mindscape, seeing their disciple kneeling on the ground with his eyes burning with multiple emotions. One of anger, regret, and even sadness. He then began muttering under his breath. "Damn it all... How could he do that!?"

Kuroi and Kiko stood by him, around half a foot away from him. Kiko wanted to say something, but she knew her words wouldn't even be worthwhile to listen to from Kodak's perspective. And yet she persisted.

"Talk with us, Kodak. Tell us what we can do to help." Kodak then lifts his hands into the air, leaving them suspended for a moment.

Silence fills the air. Kuroi then gets in front of Kiko, something was provoking his protective nature. "Get behind me, his aura is plaguing him." Kiko looks at him with a look of shock from what Kuroi told her, but also the worries that clouded her mind when it came to their disciple. "What, how is that possible!?"

Kuroi then looked at Kodak's eyes, their hue of purple was becoming a slight shade of crimson red. "Fūshuku!?" Kiko's eyes then widen as she looks back at Kodak. "Fūshuku, you let go of him this moment!" Kodak's eyes then dart at Kiko as a twisted smile appears on his face, along with Fūshuku appearing behind him.

[Aura Core Selection: Martial Destruction has been selected!]

Kodak's eyes then flicker red, and his open hands that stood still in the air became fists. He then brought his fists down, destroying the ground beneath him. Cracks form from the impact as a cloud of dust and debris fly from the punch. Kuroi jumps away, flying through the air, and hides Kiko at the edge of the mindscape. "You stay here, and if Fūshuku comes for you. Strike him down."

She nods at the harsh but truthful words from Kuroi as she sees him fly back over towards Kodak. "(Fūshuku, what is your plan?)" Kuroi thought to himself. But before he could figure out, he felt murderous intent flood the air. Kodak then leaps through the air, punching Kuroi in the face. "Know your place, Fūshuku!" Kuroi grabs Kodak's arm and punches him back in the face, sending him crashing to the ground. Kodak stands up, grabbing his head. Kuroi flies down, about to hit him again, but notices what Kodak was doing. "Looks like you're fighting for control.

Good, that means I only have to beat you half to death!"

Kodak's aura intensifies as the mindscape evolves, transforming from a black and empty landscape into something more vivid. Dark fields of grass stretch out alongside blackened mountains, while the sky is illuminated with countless stars and even distant galaxies. Kodak then hears a voice in his head. One of Akuma and Dal-Hee, his mother and sister. He looks around himself, seeing blood splattered all across the ground and the bloody handprints that were all over Akuma's body, mainly the ones around her legs and neck. He then looked at his mother, and a hole was seen through her stomach, and her face was distorted. A face robbed of joy, leaving only a creepy and angry face that stared at him. He then turned back over to his sister to see the same face. Multiple feelings rushed through Kodak's body, not one of fear, anger, malice, or uneasiness. But a composed face of focus and sheer will. "Fūshuku I know you're here so just cut the bullshit." The distorted and creepy forms of his sister and mother fade to dust as Fūshuku appears right before him. "BOO!" Fūshuku says, trying to scare Kodak, but he doesn't even blink. "Jeez, at least say I'm kinda scary, you overly serious bastard."

Kodak then grabs him by the collar, staring at him intensely. "LEAVE." The shift of Kodak's tone was alarming to Fūshuku, one that reminded him of Kuroi's "You both are so damn boring!" Fūshuku then headbutts Kodak, sending him back. He wipes his nose, leaving a smear of blood on the back of his hand. "Fine." Kodak punches Fūshuku, but to his surprise, his revenant doesn't respond. Fūshuku laughs at him. "HA! Missing your destructive abilities, aren't you? I can invade both the physical and mental realms of your body, thus making us fight within your mind in a fair 1V1 fight. So, fight me, you spoiled brat!"

[2500 points of Kinetic energy charged!]

Kodak smirks before rushing at Fūshuku. "DODGE THIS!" A punch grazes his cheek as Fūshuku feels kinetic energy pulsing through the air. "What!?" The graze from Fūshuku's face then starts bleeding as Kodak throws another punch, but this time it slashes through Fūshuku's jaw. Blood leaks from his mouth.

[1st Kinetic Formation: Charge and Burst Impact!]

Kodak kicks at Fūshuku's right leg, breaking it instantly. "I thought someone as cunning as you would realize my kinetic energy now coexists with my Destructive energy core, how fucking stupid are you?" Fūshuku stands up, throwing a sweeping kick at Kodak.

[Skill: Pulsating Shield Activated Strongly!]

Fūshuku watches as his attack does nothing, and he closes his eyes, ready for the brutal beating Kodak had for him. "Go ahead, beat me just like everyone has!" But it never came; instead, Fūshuku opened his eyes to see that Kodak was sitting down at his level, without any kinetic energy reinforcement.

"What are you waiting for, fucking hit me! Kill me, make me regret what I did, and just send me to hell!" Kodak shakes his head at Fūshuku's yelling. "You fucking stupid, I can't kill you. You still have amends you need to settle with Kuroi. You're not getting an easy way out of this!" Kodak grabs Fūshuku by his shirt. "Now, release your technique. Next time I won't be so kind." Fūshuku hesitated for a moment, but reluctantly snapped his fingers.

Kodak opens his eyes and sees Kuroi standing over him, angrily holding Fūshuku. "I should kick your ass for messing with Kodak!" Kuroi raises his fist, but Kodak springs up and catches Kuroi's fist. "Stop this, Kuroi. Nothing good will come out of more violence." Kuroi releases the grip he had on Fūshuku. Staring at Kodak after Fūshuku scurried away. "Then what do you suggest I do, cause as far as I'm concerned, this bastard ruined my life back in the Heian period! Traumatized Kiko past her limits, and then he almost took over your body and made you and me fight. So tell me, what should I do!?" Kodak didn't back down from Kuroi's harsh words and yelled right back. "FORGIVE HIM!" Kuroi's eyes flare up with rage, prompting him to punch Kodak across the mindscape. "FORGIVE HIM, WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THAT!?"

Kuroi's head fills with rage as he flies right at Kodak head-on. "(At this point, I don't care about the curse.)" Kodak dodges the punch from Kuroi, watching as it tears through the terrain, scattering rubble across the mindscape.

[Kinetic energy is being absorbed!]

[Skill: Destructive Aura Activated Strongly!]

Kodak smirks as he feels the aura of destructive energy flowing through his body.

[1st Destructive Formation: Tenfold Impact Activated!]

Kodak punches Kuroi in the jaw, sending him flying into the air. Kodak looks at his fist, thinking to himself. "(That felt weird, my energies are flooding into each other and lowering my output.)" Kuroi then stops midair, rushing down at Kodak again. "Why are you defending a villain such as him?!"

Kodak digs his feet into the ground, catching the impact of Kuroi's destructive aura. The ground cracks and gets torn through as Kodak is dragged against the ground as he resists the attack. "Are you done, or are you gonna grow up and apologize for both of your mistakes!?" Kuroi's body shakes in response to the words from Kodak. The fighting then stops, Kodak and Kuroi fly into the air, and their conversation begins. "You ask why I do this, but do you truly understand why I hate him?" Kodak shakes his head in response.

"I don't understand why, but I can tell from both your revenant levels that you're both brothers. So why hurt your younger brother?! You are supposed to protect him and help him through any possibility!" Kuroi grits his teeth, angry at not only Kodak but his words. "I tried protecting him! But then he lashed out at those deserving of it, he let that power corrupt him and mold him into something twisted and evil!" Kodak thought about Kuroi's past description of Fūshuku, thinking there had to be an alternative to change in behavior. "Fūshuku, come out."

Then, almost like a magic trick, Fūshuku appeared before them. "You too talk and try to understand one another. If I'm gonna be unable to wake up for a couple of months, then the least I could do is train with Kiko. Perhaps you two could join us when you solve your family drama." Kodak says as he flies across the mindscape, going to find Kiko.

A painful silence fills the room as the brothers turn to look at one another.

"Look, I'm-"

"Look, I'm-"

They both speak simultaneously, Kuroi stops first, trying to let Fūshuku speak first. "No, you speak first. It's only right because you wanted this, Fuku." Kuroi's tone becomes soft and gentle, looks like he was finally ready to embrace that role as the older brother, finally. Fūshuku's face looks at Kuroi with a bit of surprise, but also amusement. "So, you finally decided to call me by that name. I'm glad we're talking one-on-one again, but this doesn't change what happened all those millennia ago."

Kuroi becomes uneasy, but he brushes the feeling and braces himself mentally. "I am sorry, Fuku. For the ignorance, the abuse, both mentally and physically. I'm sorry for taking sides with the higher-ups and ignoring our family's only rule." Fūshuku nodded, but he just needed something else. "Tell me the rule then if you remember it so damn well." Fūshuku's emotions explode from feeling the ignored responses from his brother all those years ago. His face becomes slightly angry, but more disappointed if anything. "Well, you gonna take all day?!"

Kuroi kept a calm and composed attitude, replying to Fūshuku's long-awaited question. "Win for those that deserve it, despite their cruel outcome against this world, that's what our family needed us to do. That's what we are striving to do til this very moment!" Kuroi then felt a fire dwelling within him, one driven no longer by vengeance, but by a determined protective role that would lead to the future.
