Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Fight to the End

Shirley drove her car back to the castle and went back inside. She walked by the tapestry and took a second, longer look. Grabbing a torch and holding it aloft, she cast more light upon the tapestry. Shirley said, "Something about this mystery doesn't fit; I'm just missing something." Walking down the hall filled with doors, she opened one of them and saw the library. Shirley walked into the library and spotted a blue book on the desk. She opened the book and skimmed through it. Shirley said, "Why, it's a diary. Queen Anabeth's Diary." Shirley turned to the last entry and read it out loud. Shirley said, "The last entry was dated October 12th, 1987. "Steven and I don't understand why Tiara is acting so strangely. We found the perfect prince for her—Prince Frederick—but she says her heart belongs to someone else. Somehow, Steven and I must convince Tiara to marry Fredrick." Shirley closed the diary after finishing and said, "That's all she wrote."

Shirley was going to put the diary back on the desk when an envelope fell out. Shirley saw the envelope fall out, picked it up, and opened it. Taking the note that was inside, she unfolded it and read, "Dear M & F. I have taken my horse and have gone to find my real, true love. I'm sorry that I couldn't accept Prince Fredrick, but we just weren't meant to be. If we are never united again, please know that I'll always love you. T." Shirley started to cry because of the note, but she rubbed her eyes dry and put the note in her pocket. Then the library began to fill with smoke, and Shirley started to hear growling. Shirley said, "This could be very bad."

Shirley hid behind a stack of books and saw the dragon blow the doors down with his fire breath. The dragon said, "I thought I heard something in here." Shirley was being extra quiet so the dragon wouldn't find her. The dragon left because he couldn't find anybody. Then Shirley saw that the dragon dropped something shiny. Shirley walked up to it and saw that it was a key. Shirley said, "A key." Shirley kept the key and saved it for later.

Shirley thought about it and realized the only place she still hadn't checked was the tower of the castle, so that's where she went. Once she got to the castle tower without running into trouble like last time, she tried opening the door, but it was locked. She tried the key she found, but it didn't fit. Since the key didn't work, Shirley took her hairpin from her hair, put it in the keyhole, and picked the lock on the door. She then walked in and used her flashlight to look around. While she was searching, she found a light switch, flipped it, and turned on the lights. Once the lights turned on, Shirley spotted an old trunk and tried to open it, but it was locked. Then Shirley put the key she found in the keyhole, and the trunk opened. Shirley looked through the stuff in the trunk, hoping she would find some clues. Shirley found a bunch of old crowns, an old wooden dragon, and a book on magic. Shirley said, "Maybe this is a clue: Magician Tricks Made Easy."

Shirley skimmed through the book and found a spell on turning people into pigeons. Shirley said, "This spell's familiar. The mysterious figure used it on my past foes. Plus, in the spell, the word 'pigeon' is underlined three times." Shirley turned the page and saw pictures of all her foes in the book. Shirley said, "Pictures of all my foes. Very interesting." Shirley put the book in her backpack and kept looking through the trunk. Shirley looked under a few papers and found an envelope that looked just like the one she saw in the diary. Shirley opened the envelope, took out the note, unfolded it, and read it. Shirley said, "'Dear F., I have just been notified that we're getting married. My parents don't know this, but I can't marry you since I don't love you. I'm leaving tomorrow on my horse to live my own life and hopefully find my real, true love. If I can't, I'll return. T.' If T. is Tiara and F. is Fredrick, who's M. and the other F. in the first note?"
