CHAPTER 16
Still, in his overwhelming daze, Megumi suddenly felt a bright ray of light against his eyelids, prompting him to quickly place the palm of his hand over his eyes as he slowly tried to open them.
He still couldn't see anything even after that, as the light only grew stronger, forcing him to close his eyes tightly once again. He could feel the bed he was lying on, but it was a bit too quiet, leaving him confused as to where he could be.
The last time he could remember, he was lying on a bed as well with a young lady sitting right beside him. He still couldn't recall what she looked with the only thing he knew being that she had white hair.
Mustering as much strength as he could, he reached out, gripping the bed and pulling himself forward. He ended up falling to the ground, prompting a loud grunt as he tried to get up from the floor.
" Is someone there?" He mumbled, still trying to protect his eyes from the blinding light.
And even if he were to call out a million more times, he was certain that no one was coming to his aid, given how thin his voice had become. It was almost silent, like a gasping murmur that one would struggle to hear even if it were to be whispered.
If he were to get on his feet, what way could he possibly go after that, if there was even a way from here? He slumped on the floor helplessly, breathing heavily.
" What is happening to me?" He thought, tightly clenching his fist.
Amidst his fleeting, desperate breaths, a voice suddenly whispered gently into his ears.
" Don't worry too much. It'll all be over soon."
It was gentle, sending a cold breeze over his ears, immediately prompting his attention, but he still couldn't dare open his eyes.
Megumi chuckled slightly, slapping his palm against the floor as he let out another slight groan.
" Is this another one of your visions, or should I be worried that Enma is standing right next to me?" He asked, "And if you're the one causing this, then I'd really like to know why."
There was no reply from the strange voice and after a few moments, he felt a slight gush of wind against his face. The once blinding lights suddenly diminished, and he quickly opened his eyes to subtle darkness.
Ding!
A familiar sound suddenly rang in his head...
{Host has received Emma's blessings}
{Title: Saint of death}
{Abilities: Immortality, soul trace, mortal gaze, soul perception, death travel, soul purification, ghostly conjuration, gaze of fate, soul binding, soul crafting, death's gaze.}
The array of limited abilities birthed by his title as the saint of death were all with descriptions he couldn't bear reading through given how many there were but it did seem quite interesting.
And just before he could go into much thought on the sudden case, he felt a sudden force pull him back to reality. He slowly opened his eyes to see the ceiling that lay above him and the bustling noise of children coming from outside the room was immediately noticed.
He groaned loudly as he quickly swung his legs down the bed, holding his head with both hands as he slowly sat upright. He had been in a coma for over a month now and still needed time to wrap his head around some things.
He slowly looked up a while after that to see the door to his room slowly swing open and a young lady slowly walk in.
" I'll have my Lady know you've gotten better." She said, bowing slightly after a momentary gaze at him.
He completely ignored her, coughing slightly as he slowly got up from the bed. He approached the door, walking past her in his bid to get out as soon as possible.
His memories were just as they were before he fell into his long comma, but he couldn't remember any of the things around him.
There was only one thing going through his mind at the moment; "Yuki! I have to find her."
He was already a few meters away from the door in the blink of an eye and slowly began making his way toward the shed right next to the pond. With one gaze at the structures, the only thing he wanted to do now was leave the court as soon as possible.
He passed through the bridge, catching the attention of many maida along the way, and just as he was about to reach the exit, he saw two ladies walk in, both had long white hair.
"Megumi," Rikiyo called out in a soft gentle voice, quickly rushing toward him.
She quickly grabbed a hold of his arm, pulling him closer toward him with a warm smile on her face. Yuki stood watching them both from behind with a smile on her face as well.
Megumi was able to recognize them both almost instantly but their white hair was still a bit confusing for him. The last time he saw them, they both had black and pink hair.
"We should head back inside." She said, slowly letting go of him.
"Yeah, sure." He mumbled, slowly following behind her.
They soon arrived back at his room and had him lay back on the bed implying that he may not have recovered fully and needs to rest a bit more.
Rikiyo did ask him a few questions, most concerning the things Yuki told him about how he was acting even while in comma but he simply told her he had never once seen or heard anything from the day he fell unconscious. They left some minutes, leaving him to himself once more.
No one knew what happened, or why he fell into a comma and he didn't know either but he already had a hint on who it could have been. Whatever the case he he had to be on the lookout for whoever that god of death was, and where his doppelganger could be at the very moment.
In his dream, he didn't see anything that hinted towards where he could be from and their mothers looked exactly the same with only their eye colors placing them apart.
"They already know where the doppelgangers are, but I wonder what they meant by dealing with them. And what are these abilities anyway? Saint of death? Immortality?" He thought, staring at his palms, "Am I invulnerable to death as long as I remain in this world?"
"You should have something to eat," Yuki said, slowly walking in with a tray of food in her hands.
"I was gonna tell you not to bring any meals, but you might as well leave it there. I'll eat it later." He said with a slight sigh, "By the way, why are you the one serving me lunch anyway?"
"I took it upon myself to do so." She replied, turning to face him after she left the food for him on the table.
"Okay... Just don't push yourself too hard; don't want you breaking your other ankle." He said, mumbling the last few words with a slight chuckle, "You were so short back then."
A smile slowly grew on her face as she glared at him. For moments just stood there staring at each other and then she decided to turn around and leave.
"Did I just make her angry?" He mumbled, turning his gaze toward the tray of dishes on the table just a few meters away from him.
He slowly proceeded towards it. The dishes were fairly similar to the ones he had been eating a while back, and as much as he wasn't hungry, he just wanted to finish the meal and get it over with.
And then, perhaps he would begin seeing to his newfound abilities as soon as possible.
