Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: The Fraternity

But even with that boost—

Mr. X could not dodge!

STAB! STAB!

Under the pressure of Lance's incredible strength, the two wrist blades pierced through Mr. X's body without resistance!

Feel this!

Just now, Mr. X stabbed Ethan's lungs with his knife. Now, Lance is doing the same! But Lance doesn't stop there—

BANG!

A brutal shot straight to the kidneys!

Mr. X staggers!

The adrenaline in Mr. X's body allows him to withstand the pain, but his body cannot escape the impact of this severe injury.

Blood flows.

And this time, Lance will not give him a chance for a counterattack.

Mr. X's lungs and kidneys are destroyed. However—

Mr. X does not fall immediately! Instead, Mr. X grits his teeth, forcing his dying body to move once more. Mr. X's eyes radiate insane determination. If he has to die, Mr. X will take his enemy with him!

SWISH!

With one swift motion, Mr. X turns his weapon—pointing the barrel of his gun directly at Lance's face!

But—

Too late.

Lance is faster.

SHING!

The bloodied knife from his wrist is yanked out forcefully—red splatters fill the air. In an instant—

STAB!

Lance's knuckles strike hard against the back of Mr. X's neck!

CRACK!

Mr. X's brain shatters into pieces. Mr. X's bloodied body falls limply and silently.

[Kill the Legendary Assassin Mr. X and earn 30 points]

Lance rubs his chin, his eyes narrowing in thought. "Mr. X? That name sounds familiar. And his curved shooting technique..."

"A special skill from the textile factory... But weren't these people supposed to be assassins? Why are they acting as bodyguards instead? Ah, whatever. The important thing is, there's still a group of other monsters waiting to be harvested. And... Each gives 30 points of 'experience'." A faint smile appears on Lance's lips.

"A dozen of them... equivalent to two low-level demons. Oh, right. That mysterious loom must also be something valuable, right?" For a moment, Lance ponders.

"I should have let Mr. X live longer, find out where their lair is, then kill Mr. X. But oh well. Also, this guy... A little worse than Nobu... However—Mr. X still almost qualifies to be a Black Lantern Messenger." Lance's eyes shine even brighter.

Then—

With a casual motion, Lance grabs Mr. X's special gun.

Then—

Lance turns Mr. X's body.

And throws the corpse like a disc.

WHAM!

Wolf, who had just tried to move away, is knocked back.

His eyes widen, fixed on the lifeless body that crashes to the ground in front of him.

Mission accomplished.

...

...

...

It was late at night, and the city was engulfed in silence. Most people had fallen asleep, leaving only the faint flicker of streetlights.

Americans had become all too familiar with the sound of gunfire—so accustomed that it was no longer shocking, but rather a source of stress. When Ethan crashed his car into the "Wolf" group, a loud bang echoed in the air. However, only a few dared to stop and witness the chaos firsthand. Most hurried their steps, as if they hadn't heard anything at all. Cars on the road sped up, avoiding any chance of getting involved in trouble.

Lance scanned his surroundings. No witnesses. No spies watching.

Where Lance didn't need to look elsewhere. Calmly, Lance threw Mr. X's body into the dark shadows, where light could not reach. Within seconds, the Black Lantern Ring glowed ominously, and a second projection formed.

As the ring emitted its cold, hollow aura, the wounds on Mr. X's body began to heal at an unnatural speed. Mr. X's torn skin slowly knitted together, and his broken bones rejoined. In just a few seconds, the man appeared graceful and authoritative once more—only, there was something different. Mr. X's eyes were now pitch black, empty, and lifeless.

Mr. X slowly opened his mouth. The voice that emerged sounded heavy and filled with supernatural resonance as Mr. X recited the oath:

"The darkest night covers the sun,

When one grows stronger, the other falls.

Your heart will be torn and your soul will be taken,

The living dead will return to serve you!"

Lance touched his chin and smiled slightly. "Hmm… I forgot to convey my conviction earlier. It feels like something is missing. I should ask Nobu to redeem it next time."

Then, in a theatrical tone, Lance said, "Should I give a welcoming speech? 'Mr. X from Earth, fate has awaited you for a long time!'"

Mr. X—or now the resurrected figure—bowed his head slightly, an elegant smile forming on his face. "Honorable sir, my real name is Thomson Gregg. 'Mr. X' is merely the codename of a killer."

Lance shrugged casually. "Mr. X sounds simpler and easier to remember."

Mr. X did not argue. He immediately agreed obediently. "As you wish, honorable sir."

Lance squinted slightly. "Where is the headquarters of The Fraternity?"

"The textile factory is in Queens," Mr. X replied without hesitation.

"How many Assassins do they have?" Lance then asked again.

Mr. X answered in a flat tone, as if he were just a book being opened and read, no longer possessing his own will.

"There are 43 regular Assassins, 21 elite Assassins, and 8 legendary Assassins. However, most of them are on missions outside and are not at the textile factory."

Lance smiled faintly. Valuable information had just been provided without any resistance.

"The regular Assassins are not important. Are all the legendary killers here?" Lance asked in a flat tone, but his eyes narrowed sharply, indicating that this was a very serious question for him.

These killers had emerged in 2008, and they possessed extraordinary abilities in hiding. If Lance couldn't capture them all in one go, it would be difficult to find them again in the future.

Mr. X answered without hesitation, "There are only four legendary killers stationed at the textile factory: Sloan, The Gunsmith, The Repairman, and The Butcher."

Mr. X paused for a moment before adding something more important.

"However, recently, a traitor has emerged in The Fraternity—Cross. That man is the strongest killer in this organization."
