Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: The Appearance of the White Lantern

Christine could only watch, her body freezing for a moment. Although Christine knew that at such heights, even if there were air pockets or safety nets below, the chances of survival were nearly zero.

However, Christine's body reacted faster than her mind. Her eyes narrowed, and in an instant, she raised her right hand.

"Bakudō #37: Tsuriboshi! (Hanging Star)!"

Spiritual energy formed a circle of light in the air, then slowly wove a large net resembling a giant hammock. As the people fell, the net perfectly absorbed their momentum, gently lowering them to the ground, like a giant slide saving their lives at the last moment.

The people around could only gape.

"What is that?"

"Wow…"

This wasn't the age of superheroes. The sight of a woman floating in the air in a strange costume while saving lives was something beyond their comprehension.

Christine herself felt a bit awkward. She was not the type of person who liked to be the center of attention, but now she had no choice.

"Alright... I'm here to help." Christine whispered softly before descending to the ground.

As soon as she landed near the ambulance, Christine immediately approached a man lying on a stretcher, his body covered in burns. Without hesitation, Christine placed her hands on the man's body.

The doctor treating the man looked shocked. "What are you going to do?"

Christine recognized the doctor—one of the medical staff from Metro-General Hospital. Without looking at the person, Christine replied in a soft but firm voice.

"Saving this person."

A white light shone from her hands. The energy from the White Lantern Ring mixed with the power of Reiryoku (Spiritual Energy), seeping into the man's wounds. Within seconds, the damaged tissue began to heal. The wounds closed, the burned skin returned to normal, and the man's breathing became more stable.

A nurse inside the ambulance covered her mouth with both hands, her eyes widening. "Is this... a miracle?"

The injured man weakly opened his eyes. As he saw Christine standing above him, surrounded by a soft white light, his lips moved, mumbling something.

"Are... you an angel?"

Christine smiled faintly and shook her head. "No." Christine's lips curled slightly. "I am the White Lantern Messenger."

The man stared at Christine in confusion. "White Lantern...? What is that?"

Christine simply smiled. "The miracle of life."

At that moment, Christine finally felt certain. She might still doubt many things about herself, but one thing had been decided—her side job in the future would be to become a White Lantern Messenger.

Saving lives wasn't a bad thing.

However, before Christine could think further…

"Thump. Thump. Thump~~"

"Thump. Thump. Thump~~"

A sound echoed from the depths of the sea of flames. A dull sound mixed with screams, howls, and the cracking of collapsing buildings. Christine tensed. A chill crept from her feet to her head.

The heartbeat.

That sound… was a heartbeat.

...

...

...

Living Room.

Vivi wore a thin black nightgown, lounging comfortably on the spacious sofa with one hand propping up her head. The dim light from the lamp in the corner of the room cast a soft silhouette of Vivi's slender figure behind the sheer fabric. Her gaze shifted to the screen in front of her for a moment before glancing at Lance with a faint smile.

"It seems I'm not the first person to gain the power of the White Lantern Ring," Vivi said lightly, though her eyes hinted at something deeper.

On the screen, the news broadcast showcased the dazzling debut of the first White Lantern. The glowing figure, clad in a shining white uniform amidst the darkness of the night, had become the center of the world's attention. The media aired the moment live, and within hours, the person's name had become famous.

On the other hand, the future Iron Man could only grumble inwardly. The title of the first superhero had been snatched away before Tony could even make an appearance.

Lance remained calm, his expression as usual, difficult to read. He looked at Vivi for a moment before speaking, "Her name is Christine Palmer. Christine is a kind-hearted, brave, and polite doctor—qualities that align perfectly with the teachings of the White Lantern Ring."

Vivi furrowed her brow, her lips pouting slightly. She didn't say anything further, but it was clear that something was bothering her.

Lance had once explained to Vivi that the more Lantern Ring Messengers there were, the greater the energy she could access. Logically, Vivi had no issue with the emergence of another messenger. But for some reason, a feeling of jealousy still tickled her heart.

Even though Christine always wore her battle uniform, Vivi could guess that the woman must have an attractive figure. Vivi's feminine instincts were rarely wrong.

Suddenly, Lance stood up. His gaze sharpened, filled with doubt and uncertainty.

"What's wrong?" Vivi asked, a bit surprised by Lance's change in demeanor.

Lance didn't answer immediately. His hands were busy searching for something among the coats hanging near the door. Within seconds, a magical compass appeared in Lance's hand, emitting a soft, flickering light. Lance's expression hardened.

"Just as I thought... The disaster isn't happening naturally," Lance murmured in a low voice.

Vivi's expression turned serious. "Is a demon from hell causing trouble again?"

Old memories flooded back to Vivi. When she first met Lance, she and her team were attacked by a terrifying demon that mercilessly slaughtered her subordinates. If Lance hadn't shown up then, Vivi would have surely died with them. Even now, the shadow of that event still sent shivers down her spine.

Lance shook his head slowly. "Not yet certain." He set aside his compass and began putting on his battle gear. "If Christine can't stop this, I'll have to intervene myself."

"I'm coming with you!" Vivi said immediately, without hesitation.

She jumped off the sofa, and in an instant, the White Lantern Ring on her finger emitted a bright light. Vivi's nightgown transformed into a battle uniform identical to Christine's, complete with a white aura surrounding her body.
